The method is completely up to you, sir, as long as it does not have nicotine in it. There are folks here that used fake and also folks that didn't use it. The beautiful part is that nobody is gonna give your a hard time either way you go with that. Just post roll and honor your word, and everybody will support you.
My personal approach was that I never even tried the fake dip. I wasn't just tired of the addiction, I was also tired of everything that went with it:
-Tired of double-checking that I wasn't leaving my can behind.
-Tired of constantly worrying if I had enough dip to get through whatever event I was involved in.
-Tired of crap stuck in my teeth.
-Tired of looking like an idiot with a mouthful of cancer.
So, no way was I gonna continue something that reminded me of what I was trying to quit. Just felt like being handcuffed to the enemy. But, I've got some very good friends here who would have probably failed without the fake. But, man, I must have chewed a pickup load of sunflower seeds.
