Hello everyone,
New member here that is 9 days dip free. I've been chewing gum like a mother to help. So i go on a vacation to the Bahamas in a week (Dip costs $19 a can there btw), and I'll be drinking down there. This is when I'll crave it most. Any advice or tricks to stay dip free down there?
Thanks in advance 'help'
Welcome to the site and congrats on being 9 Days dip free!
HereÂ’s the thing, if youÂ’re really determined to cave and especially if youÂ’ve been drinking, it wonÂ’t matter if dip is $19 or $90. YouÂ’re going to do it. The easiest advice is to tell you not to drink, or at least to practice extreme moderation.
Sure, youÂ’re on vacation and you want to let go, but you have to decide what your Quit is worth to you. ItÂ’s an unfortunately common theme here that alcohol + a new Quit = disaster. ItÂ’s the most common excuse we see around here, and also the most avoidable. If you truly value staying quit, you might need to forego the booze. ItÂ’s one vacation against the rest of your life - and frankly you should still be able to have a blast without it.
If you decide that not drinking really isn’t realistic, you need to build a support network amongst your friends. Tell everyone you’re with that you are now quit, for real and you’d like them to keep an eye out for you. No one needs to be your babysitter, but good friends should be able to talk you out of a trip to the store, and not offer from their own supply. Also, you need to know no cheating with cigs/ cigars/ vape, etc. nicotine is nicotine and there is no Quit if you’re just substituting. Maybe plan ahead by bringing some Smokey Mountain or another “fake” with you.
Finally and most important, you should use the resources at this site. The cool thing here is that there are thousands of stories just like yours. Dig around and youÂ’ll find no shortage of both motivating and cautionary tales. Start with my Intro, I outlined a plan for my bachelor party, that you might find helpful.
The best resource we have is called “Roll.” Roll is a daily promise not to use nicotine. You post your day count and promise in your Quit group (based on the date you’ll be 100 Days Quit, you should be in July 18) as early as reasonably possible, every single day. Then you keep your word. It might sound silly, but making that promise to a group of strangers, just works. Its one day at a time, you can go one day without caving. Just do that and worry about tomorrow when it gets here.
Roll is also considered the price of admission for using this site. We have a robust community of quitters, where you will find the accountability, support, distraction and brotherhood that will help pull you through the tough times ahead. This system works, but you have to commit to it for one day, every day.
Reach out if I can help further.
