Read the narratives on this site and you will find that everyone has wanted to stop but failed over and again. You are surrounded by guys at work who cannot break their enslavement to this drug, and for you to stay quit is a thorn in their conscience irritating them quit too. That's uncomfortable for them and so they have an incentive to see you cave. Nobody can control their nicotine intake: one can a day dippers would still dip one can a day even if they doubled the size of the can. If you could choose to take nicotine by IV while you sleep, you probably would. It is all or nothing as you know. Make it nothing.

Hey man! Welcome aboard, and great job posting roll! You sound like you're determined, and that's great. You'll need your determination! But one piece of advice. Eliminate the word "habit" from your vocabulary when talking about nicotine. You referred to it as a habit 7 different times in your introduction. This is full blown addiction, brother. Picking your nose, biting your fingernails, cracking your knuckles...those are habits. We're talking about something that is physically and mentally addicting, complete with legitimate withdrawal symptoms. This is going to sound very uncomfortable (I know because it makes ME uncomfortable), but we are addicts. I still have some difficulty saying that about myself, but it's true. And if I EVER forget that, I'm $5 and a gas station away from fucking my quit up.

I don't bring this up to nitpick or split hairs just for the sake of being particular, though. I just want to make sure you know that you have a real fight ahead of you - which I think you already know. Just making sure, though! The great news is that you have many, MANY supporters here - myself included! So, that being said, I look forward to kicking this thing's ass with you.

Time for a change
« on: August 09, 2015, 09:36:00 AM »
Hey there. Just a little background on myself I'm 30, started dipping at 19-20. My drug of choice has been grizzly wintergreen with an occasional cope or Kodiak sprinkled in; mainly wintergreen or mint, not much for the fruity stuff.

My new journey began this morning at 0630 hrs and I have to admit I am excited, nervous but completely determined. Although this is a new beginning the real story begins many years ago, it's a story of addiction and failures.

It all began one fateful night about 10-11 years ago (10 years, holy sh!t. Looking back I would have never thought I would still be chewing). I never would have thought one chew (Skoal Frost, funny how you can remember something like that but forget other things) would have grown into the habit it is. I slowly began my chewing addiction having an occasional pinch while landscaping but eventually it has turned into a tin a day habit. My real downturn was when I began working at an ambulance company and my partner at the time would easily burn through 2-3 tins a day. This only fed my habit, anytime I would run dry he was always there to lend me a pinch. I slowly found myself plowing through a tin a day myself and some days 1.5 in my 24 hour shift. Moving forward in life I got hired at a fire department and had every intention of stopping the habit at that point. This is where the second problem occurred. It seems the majority of the guys I worked with chewed! So rather than kicking the habit completely I just ended up throttling back a bit. Initially a tin would last 2 sometimes 3 days but as time went on so did the habit and I inevitably found myself back at about a tin a day. This habit continued for 3 additional years. Then I decided to turn to Nicorette. I used Nicorette for about 3 months then managed to ween myself off and was completely nicotine free for about 6 months. It was great! As time went by my buddy (who also quit) and I were reminiscing about our favorite chew times (after a hockey game or while hunting) and we decided to purchase a tin. This may possibly be the second worst decision in my life (first being having that first chew many years prior). We laid down the ground rules of this can, it would only be one; it would only be consumed at work; and once we were out, we were done again. Having been dip free for 9 months total and nicotine free for 6 I figured a tin over the next few shifts wouldn't be an issue between the two of us. Well that one tin turned into "one more" which turned into a tin on the way home from work and so on. Well here I am again chewing a tin a day ruing the day I started back on this death sentence.

Oddly enough I found this site while attempting to research the alleged Grizzly mega can (6 cans in 1!?). In any event I got side tracked from my initial search and began browsing through here. I saw a few reviews on the fake stuff and then it hit me. I immediately ordered 10 cans of Smokey Mountain as I had used it in the past to quite for a few months. I knew it was a complete disaster to clean up so I decided to give the pouches a whirl. I then order some Hooch rough cut for the days when an ol fashioned long cut chew is the only thing that will do.

I really truly believe I can do this and finding this site was a sign that it was time (I had been tossing quitting back and forth in my mind for a few months). Reading all the success stories and words of wisdom are encouraging and I look forward to making this quit forever.
