Day 8 has been a good one. I had a huge personal win this past weekend. I've played sports pretty much my whole life, and for 15 years I've been playing sports with a fat pinch of cat shit in my mouth. Well this weekend I played in a 2 day softball tournament and I DID NOT cave. Between smokey mountain, extra peppermint gum, and staying away from the cold beer. I made it even with guys popping dip cans left and right.

Well today is a rough one. I'm back at the fire station, the memories of the times I would walk around with that crap in my lip banging on my brain. Had a good conversation with a brother in quit though settled me down. Also my little girl telling me this morning that shes happy that I "dont put that brown stuff" in my mouth helps. Ultimately today will be a win, but I've decided to take it 30 minutes to an hour at a time, and keep recommitting to the quit

Mike, Welcome to the KTC Family. I am not sure where you are but I want to let you know, you are not only a Quit Brother to me, but also a Fire Brother. I'm from Vermont, started as a Vol. Firefighter at age 15, I gave up the fire service when I hit 35 as I started a family and moved, and just never had the time to dedicate to the standards I set for myself at the New Department. Fighting fire is still in my Blood. All my Uncles were fire fighters, my Grandfather, I went full in FF/EMTD (At that time) 110%, just like everything, if I can't give it my all I don't bother. I stay active helping my Cousins at the Department when I can give some time, make sure they stay trained and safe, I keep up with the daily going on's and I remember our fallen. My back is not what it use to be, but damn I miss the Brotherhood. That's one thing I love about KTC, that feeling of Brotherhood we are so use to.

Today I hit 100 Days Quit, most are calling it a Win, and I do too, but it's that Firefighting Part of me that hates the Attention, I'm no "Hero or Leader" I'm just a guy doing what I do. I won't lie to you and tell you this Quit is easy. Before I found KTC I went a year and a half by myself, using Nic Gum, Patches, you name it. Then I had one bad day and I caved.. But since I joined KTC, it has made it a lot easier, these Brothers and Sisters know what we are dealing with, the only advise I can give is get those digits and don't be afraid to use them. Go all in Brother and I promise this will work for you. I will PM My digits once this is posted. I'm proud that you are here and you finally said enough is enough, I was a Grizz Brother as well, it honestly did nothing for us but messed us up, we are no better then the Junkies we risk our lives for every day, but then again we are better then them because we are doing something about our Addiction, and we will get through it together. Seriously Bro, if you need anything, I have your back.

Stay Strong and I like how you are working things. One of my Favorite Sayings come from the Story of Marcus Luttrell (The Lone Survivor) When his brothers were killed, he escaped the enemy, he did it by drawing a line in the dirt, he crawled to that line and drew the next, he never quit, so that's how I quit. Its told by the vets here ODAAT (One Day at a time) Start with that 24 hour promise, if 24 hours is to long do it Hour by Hour, Minute by Minute, Hell Second by Second. Draw that line in your mind, get to it and draw the next. All we have is Right Now, don't worry about tomorrow, Next Week or Month. You got this brother and I will have your back along the way.
Wake Up, Piss, Post. I'm Proud to quit with you Today!

As a new group the Vets will be tough on you and August, Like the Fire Service and the Breaking in of a Probie, take it in Stride, none of us are better then anyone here on KTC, We are only as strong as our weakest link. Become a Team / Unit start talking about a Name for your Group, keep the ideas flowing until the last day someone can join your group and vote on it. Be accountable for each other share those digits, use your page like it is the firehouse, remember it's not only there to post roll. Lead by example.

Stay safe out there Brother and thank you for your service to the community!

Well this quit has been different from what I can remeber. Right now it's a zombie feeling with a whole lot of asshole mixed in. I can just look at something and I immediately want a pinch of that grizzly but  I wont do it and I immediately start to hate everything around me. I know it will get better but it still sucks, I think this time around is even worse

Remember this feeling well and use to to fuel you...make this your forever quit, not merely a stoppage.  I've been there bro, and it's harder every time you do it.  Just reach down, sack up, build relationships, wake up, piss post, and keep your promises.  If you want it bad enough, it's yours.  I'm proof it can be done.  Now get to quitting!

I hope you come back, and I hope you post roll.

Quitting nicotine is one of the hardest things you will ever do. I'm on day 811, and I still need to make the conscious decision every single day not to dip. But, the freedom is worth it!
Day 88 bro, post roll, start the process
Great work on post! Keep it up...WUPP......ODAAT

Hey Mike, Samrs has given you a good start on information in those links.....check out the links in my signature and my Intro.....I promise you that you will find that every here has, is and continues to deal with this addiction.

The good news is....KTC WORKS! FAILURE IS A CHOICE.....that's my daily promise....if you have fortitude in your mind to stay quit, it gets easier one day at a time. The more you educate yourself and talk to your quit brothers here, the more your quit stengthens.

Trust this brotherhood. I am going to assume you might be a firefighter, your KTC brothers are no different.
Hey Mike,

Glad to see you made the decision to quit.

All the nicotine should be out of your system at around 72 hours, give or take. So, you aren't quite there yet. Everybody is different, but we are all the same in one way or another.

For me, the first two weeks were pretty rough. I suffered from insomnia, constant headaches and some blurred vision. Hell, it felt like my eyes were going to pop out of my head for a few days. By the time I started on week 4 of being quit things definitely started getting better. Some people swear it got better for them sooner than that. All I can tell you is that it will get better and it will get easier. I am on Day 95 today and I feel better than I have felt in years. And, I have a shitload more money in my wallet today to spend on all kinds of dumb shit.

Hang in there. Good luck and just focus on today. If it helps, just focus on the next hour. If I can quit after 35 years of tobacco use, you can do it too.

I quit April 9th I know it early but the craving for a dip is still strong. My temper is a lot shorter now too, need some help trying nbn g how to keep myself calm since I don't have dip anymore
Mike - that's incredibly common. Take a look at What To Expect When You Quit Dipping and Symptoms of Quitting Dip and Chew. That will tell you a lot about what you can expect to go through in your quit. Knowing what was around the corner helped me a lot.

You've already signed up at KTC - the next step is to start posting roll in the July quit group. There are instructions on How To Post Roll Call and even a video about Posting Roll on KTC Kill the Can that you can watch.

A quit group is a bunch of folks who quit at about the same time as you. Post roll and get connected with them so you won't have to go through this alone. There's probably a few in that group that are dealing with a shortened fuse and some of the other symptoms of quitting. Get to know your fellow quitters and lean on them when things get tough.

When you find yourself getting angry - bring it here. Take it out on us. Your family, your friends, your co-workers don't understand what you're going through. We do; we have all been there, and remember what it was like. We're here to help you get through that and out to the other side, where things get so, so much better!
