Nitro,

I replied to your PM from earlier about you needing to post in the October group because you were not sure which group.

I do not see your post in October. Let's post brother--we need a promise.

Nitro,

This site has helped me stay away from nicotine now for 89 days.

Post roll and make your promise not to use nicotine, then tomorrow repeat the process it is that simple.

pm me if you need anything--we are here to help!

Today is day 4. Fuck. This is terribly unpleasant...

I figured now would be a good time to explain myself and I hope some people can pitch me some advice and give me a few slaps in the face for feeling down.

I'm Chris, a 25 year old kid from the East Coast. I've been dipping since I was 14. It came with playing lacrosse. I love it.

Recently I got really sick and felt like quitting was the right thing to do. You know, like the times you get the flu and try to ride that wave into nicotine sobriety. And somehow, for some reason, I'm still dip-free. But, it's getting worse. I feel like shit, my lip is itching, and I have to do work right now.

I'm def a habitual user. I really can't shower, drive, walk, work, play video games, go to the bathroom, coach lacrosse, be outdoors, or drink with friends unless at some point I'm dipping. So any advice is well appreciated.

Cheers.
Nitro,

Welcome.

Day 4 is right on the verge of better days. Remember how bad this feels and know that you never have to repeat these first days.

Accept the fact that your addict brain is trying to keep you using nicotine. It has distorted your view of your addiction- "I love it" "I really can't shower,...unless I am dipping". You don't love it- you are addicted to nicotine. Your body runs a cycle like a dog chasing it's tail: use. withdrawal, use withdrawal. Big tobacco has made sure you run this cycle. You crave it the same way a heroin addict craves a needle. Big tobacco hopes that you won't die, because then they loose a customer, but hey if it happens, too bad so sad. They'll just crank up the marketing machine and find another.

Overcoming this addiction is not going to be about "riding a wave". It is going to be about having daily commitment to honor a promise: The promise not to use nicotine just for today. Every day you make that promise to all of us here when you post roll. As you come out of the initial stages of withdrawal, you will begin to see your addiction for what it is.
