Lancer101,

Welcome to the group.

I quit once before. I went to a hypnotist and lasted nine months. Then my brother convinced me that I could not keep up the quit. How wonderful. I hated the fact that I could not stop again until I finally made my mind to do it.

So you have made your mind up. Here is some helpful advice.

The main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not, the rest becomes far more simple.

Next, you will learn to distract your attention from your desire for a dip to anything else that interests you. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.

When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.

However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially in your initial quit days.

Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you cannot focus. Exercise really helps.

Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges so squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.

I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years. You are wise to quit now.

I quit with you today.

Welcome.

If you are 35 days quit, you should be in the December ‘17, not the January ‘18 group.

A couple things - we QUIT once, everything else is a temporary stop.

Also, there is a lot of “hope” and “we’ll see” type language in your post. We don’t hope, we quit, and we quit hard. We make our promise by posting roll, and we keep it. When we run into trouble, we reach out to our brothers in quit. Trade digits with a few guys in your group. Mine are a PM away.

If I was smarter, I would have quit when I was your age. Instead, I pissed away 24 years.

Make your promise, and keep it every damn day.

My Second Attempt
« on: October 22, 2017, 09:47:00 PM »
Hello quitters, this will be my second time in trying to kick the grizzly/kodiak wintergreen habit for good. After 14 years of dipping, I stumbled onto this website the first time, and thought that I ought to take another shot at quitting due to several reasons. I was in college at the time, and I was 3 months into my quit, which was my longest one to date. There was a time when I had to complete a assignment within a few hours, and I had difficulty sitting still, and concentrating in order to complete it, so I caved in order to help me calm down (and it worked), and accepted defeat at that time. I also went back into my addiction.

Now 2 years later, I have heart complications due to me having SVT, and nicotine does not seem to be helping with the condition. I have noticed after 28 days without nicotine that it was the dip that was putting most of the strain on my heart. This is one of the main reasons why I choose to quit. That, and I want extra energy to get things done in the future. So now, this quit is more of "I have to" rather than it me wanting to just because it is an inconvenience. And so far; the information on this site, and the fake dip - has helped me out so far. This will also be the first time posting in a quit group on the message boards. Hopefully, I stay with it this time....

Edit: Edited my quit days for accuracy
