I'm 31, and have been dipping for 17 years. I'm at a can of Copenhagen Snuff a day. Due to financial reasons and simply wanting to be more healthy, I plan to quit this Saturday. I have a Spartan Race which is a 4k event. My question is; do I quit right now and deal with the withdrawals or wake up Saturday with a fresh start? I'm afraid if I quit today the withdrawals with take a toll on me before or during the race.
Dude...quit NOW. There's always gonna be a "Spartan Race" around the corner. There is no perfect time to quit, other than right fucking now.
Next week you might be in a ball scratching contest or some other event and won't want to quit because it could distract you. Life is an event.
Jump on in the quit pool bro. We won't let you drown. But stay away from WT, he swims commando.
Diesel (as well as the others here) is right. The point is that addicts will ALWAYS find some excuse to put off the inevitible. I honestly can't see how quitting today will negatively affect the race. Is the race Saturday? You sure as hell don't want to quit that day. Go ahead and do it RIGHT NOW, and then exerting yourself Saturday will help clean out your system. You get an extra swing at the beast, so to speak. If you keep this plan in place, you are adding stress that you don't need. That stress will cause increased nicotine intake. That increase will likely make the withdrawals even worse when (IF) you actually quit on Saturday. Seriously, I guarantee you'll be packing half a can at the time Friday night and will stay up way too late just to get "one more". There is no "one more" for us. I know all of this because I lived it.
Sneak up on the addiction. Quit now. RIGHT NOW. Then post up a "Day 1" promise that you are done.
We're waiting......
I had my last one about an hour ago, I'm out and don't plan on buying anymore. I've quit before, many years ago and remember the withdrawals being pretty harsh. You all make a very good point; I get it, no excuses! The reason I picked Saturday was to help flush my system but I can see me packing half a can Friday night.
Go to the
June 2013 group and go post roll call. Roll call is your promise not to use nicotine for the day. Today is day one.
Us addicts always use the excuse that "there is not a good time to quit". But I have yet to see a quitter on this site, say "they wished they chewed a little longer before quitting". Even if your time suffers a little this weekend, I gurantee you that you will not regret quitting today.
Most people who say they will come back on day XXX to post day one never show up. An addict always can come up with a reason not to quit. Glad you have realized to quit NOW.
Now go post day one!
