My name is Rob and I used Copenhagen for roughly 19 years, up until September 23, 2008.
I would imagine my story resembles a good majority of the members here! You know, started in early teens progressed thru high school and mixing it with middle eastern sand while with the 82nd Airborne! I married a great woman and we have 2 beautiful kids, 1 boy and 1 girl. My wife spent a number of years begging me to quit, even throwing away my cans if she found them!! It got to the point where I had to lie to her and tell her I quit and just hide it from her, I know, not very nice. But thats how bad that crap had a hold over me. I tried to quit many times only once coming close to full quit, it lasted 37 days and I made the "pride before the fall" mistake! you know, it's been over a month, 1 dip couldn't possibly make me start back up again! I don't have to tell you how that played out.
I spent the entire month of September 08 mentally preparing myself, and picked the 23rd as my quit date, and with the help of dip stop, I have been free ever since. The one main thing that helped me the most(i'm sure most of you have heard this before) is I started living minute by minute, then hour by hour and ultimately day by day. It was very hard at first, but as long as I could get thru each day refusing to dip it just got easier and easier.
Now, everything I used to do that would trigger a craving(fishing, paintball, doing the dishes washing my truck, etc.) doesn't phase me one bit, and my payoff....I'm healthier, happier, and richer and my kids get to keep their father around longer.
Thanks for taking the time to read my long post!! I hope you don't think I'm 'Crazy'
