A Newbie here. I quit a little over a day ago. Pretty rough stuff... I had actually "stopped" on Thanksgiving and threw out everything. Made it to Tuesday and relapsed because I was weak. Hate myself for it and threw out the tin after 2 dips.
I decided that this was going to be for real. I'm sick of the habit, the lies and sick of putting my health in jeopardy for a habit. I was sick of it controlling me.
I've been reading over the site for the past few days. Lots of inspirational stuff on here and it reaffirms what I need to do. I've almost caved about a million times so far. I'm not going to give in, though. This time I mean it and I'm not going to let nicotine define who I am or decide my life for me.
To all of the vets of this board, I admire you. To those who are struggling at it - I'm right there with you and promise you and myself that we can do this!
Truth is, we are all weak. We are addicts and we are weak because we allow our addictions to control our actions and lives.
We quit one day at a time. Not forever, not for this week, not for this month - for today. We give our word that will not use nicotine - in any form - for today. We worry about tomorrow when it comes. Make it manageable.
You can do anything for one day right?
Post roll first thing in the morning and give us your word. Then, be a man of your word and quit for 24 hours. That is all that is required. Don't fuck around and not post roll to leave yourself options - wake up, post up and take the option of nic off the table for today. There will be times when you have to quit minute or hour by hour - do what you need to do to stay clean and remain keep your promise.
I couldn't quit chewing but I damn sure am a man of my word and when I give it, you can put it in the fucking bank. How about you? You a man of your word? I'll be watching to see.
BTW - I was you 708 days ago. I will not be using nicotine today - I gave my word already and will do the same tomorrow. Welcome to the site. If you use it properly, you will most definitely succeed one day at a time - that I will guarantee you.
