Thanks for posting intro and posting to the roll.  I joined you yesterday in the March 2020 preHOF.  In my day two fog, it's great to see the activity on the roll, in the forums and the messages.  Chaotique

A multitude of us jump on this train for fear of cancer.  But nicotine affects the body in a multitude of ways, among which is altering thyroid function.

The thyroid is a gland in your neck and is part of your endocrine system.  It functions to create certain hormones essential to the regulation of bodily functions. An excess or deficiency of these hormones can cause:

•   Anxiety
•   Irritability or moodiness
•   Nervousness, hyperactivity
•   Trouble sleeping
•   Tiredness and fatigue
•   Difficulty concentrating

Sound familiar? I’ve experienced all of these to varying degrees thus far. Got a text from a stranger this morning 244 days into the quit. He wanted to know if I could help him with advice.  All I can offer is related to successful nicotine cessation; WUPP EDD

For all of you starting out in the quit or still experiencing serious issues late in the game, I suggest seeing your physician. Let them know of your nicotine cessation and ask about thyroid monitoring and possible treatment options.

REMEMBER: nicotine got you here, it is the source of the problem, not the solution.

Knowledge is power.  Ignorance is terribly expensive.

Hey guys, I’m a 38 yo male who dipped roughly 2 cans a day for 15 years. Finally feel committed to quitting, no more by this date or that date. I’m on day 4 and I’m hoping others have experienced some of my symptoms. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with my heart racing, between that and this anxiety really having a hold on me. Everything I feel, I start to zone in on.(I did google some things here and there) felt like a lump in my throat one day, chest pains the next...has anyone had either and what kind of chest pains did you experience? I know I’m in the right place to finally put dip behind me.

Hey JP - welcome.  You’re in the right place.  Completely normal to have these and other side effects of quitting right now.  Your body and mind are learning to operate without nicotine.  I’m not a doctor or dentist, so you should seek advice from yours, but these are pretty common withdrawal symptoms.  I think it’s likely your anxiety and panic that are making you think the worst, but if you look around on the site - you’ll find that what you’re experiencing is in fact pretty typical.  Again, make some appointments with your physicians and let them know what you’re going through if you are truly worried about your health.

You should start posting roll in the March 2020 Pre-HOF group - https://ktcforum.org/index.php?topic=16102.0

Scroll down to the second post (after the instructional post), hit quote in the top right corner and write your user name and day number under new quitters below the others. Then tomorrow morning when you wake up, post there again and continue to do so each day.  We quit for the day, one day at a time (ODAAT). Please reach out to me for my phone number if you would like it in case you need any help with the site or to ever talk through your quit.  Glad to have you here and proud to quit with you today (PTQWYT)!

Andy
Welcome to KTC. You're in tight place. Congrats on making it to day 4 on your own. Your past the hardest part. Sounds like panic attacks, tight chest and feels hard to breath. Like Andy said though go see a professional to rule out any underlying issues. There's  a lot of support here we all have been in your shoes and can relate to what you going through.

Two cans a day is a lot time dipping during the day. Put that time into quitting and you'll  be okay. Make sure to post roll and post it early everyday. That's your promise not to use nicotine for the day. Once it's made all you have to do is keep you word until the next day. Then wake up and repeat

Hi JP,

Here is a link to What to expect when quitting dip.

Good job posting roll, we will work on getting it in the right spot over the next couple of days.  The only real wrong way to post roll is not being on it.  You are off to great a start.  Get to know your fellow quitters in March, exchange phone numbers with them and some vets as well.  Mine is available for the asking.

You will never regret quitting.  You will regret caving, so make sure it is never an option by posting roll first thing ion the morning, taking nicotine off the table for the day.

PTQWYT,

Chris
