119 days today. 17 weeks.

It was 17 weeks ago today (12/31/2009) that I took my last dip of copenhagen. My planned quit date was actually 1/1/2010, so I could have been dipping up until 11:59pm that day if I wanted to. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was in the bathroom finishing up getting ready to go out to dinner. My oldest (10 year old) was up there with me. It was 4:05 pm. I told my son I was done with chew and he watched me flush the rest of my can down the toilet. We then went around the house and threw away spitters. And that was that. At this point, the war began. Losing is not an option.

The one thing I was not prepared for when I started my quit was the duration of this battle. I was not prepared for what hit me at roughly the 3 month mark. Thank God I was able to recognize it and get help as opposed to buying a tin and losing the battle. I'm now eyes wide open and realize this battle will last a long time. I'm ready.

At the end of the day, this is the best thing I have ever done for myself/family. I will never use nicotine again. Ever. No cigars, no cigs (never did these anyway), no chew...nothing. I'm done with that shit.

I know there are still bad days coming my way, but I'm feeling pretty good today. Is it he meds? I don't know. Don't really care either. The only thing that matters at this point is I'm health, have a great family, and I'm nicotine free.

Peace.

The funks come and go. Not sure why but they do. For me this has helped.

I look at each funk as my body repairing the years of damage I did to it. If that means I am in a bad mood or depressed or my anxiety is up or I could give a shit less... well so be it. I earned all of this shit, it is the price I have to pay for shoveling that crap into my piehole.

For me at least getting my mind wrapped around that idea has really helped with my funks. When they show up I know what they are, I have the tools to combat them, and I have this place to come to. Take heart in the fact after each funk comes some pretty incredible days. Or at least for me it has...

Keep on quittin.

118 days nicotine free. So, what the heck is it about the three month mark? Is it just me or have others gone through this? The anxiety and minor depression were not expected this far out. The three month mark is roughly where I failed in my last two attempts at a quit. It all makes sense now. Granted, instead of caving this time, I went to the doc and got some meds. Speaking of the meds, anyone else take Bupropion to help with their quit? If so, how long until it was fully working?

Day 111 and I need some help here guys/gals. Long story short, I think I need someone to help reset my expectations on this quit and how I'm feeling. The first 3 months were actually not to bad. I chewed the heck out of Smokey Mountain (and still do for the most part) and this seemed to help out a whole lot. Problems started right around 3 months though. Strong feelings of anxiety. I could feel the knot in my stomach from the time I woke until I went to bed. Very tired feelings. Generally, not happy. Dull with life in general. As of last week I decided I needed to get to the doctor. Started taking Bupropion on Thursday. This has helped get rid of that knot in my stomach but still kind of blah about everything.

Two questions:

1. As for the blah feeling and the medication, does it take some time to fully start working or is what I'm feeling as good as it gets. Don't get me wrong, the knot in the stomach was what I needed fixed and it did that.

2. When the hell am I going to start being excited about life in general and get out of this blah feeling...or is this the way it will be from here on out?

Just for the record, I'm in no fear of caving and heading back to the can. That is not an option anymore. I just think I went into this thing thinking I had it beat after a couple of months. Little did I know it had plans to sucker punch me in the nut's at three months. Is there more coming?
My only advice is: join a quit group and post roll daily. I'm not sure what group you would be in, but I found this site about four months into my first real attempt at quitting, and I never joined a quit group. I caved. Post roll every single day and never take your quit for granted. You will always be an addict.
Meditate. Center, Balance, Grounding. Look inside and find the anxiety, name it and see if it is real or just smoke.
sounds like funk to me. You gotta get into a group, and start posting with guys that are going thru the same shit. Believe me your not alone.
"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

sup heretostay,

your in good company here, this place is full of high anxiety . Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on earth, anything you can do to beat it is fair game. Long term nic use hijacks your bodys ability to produce the "feel good" chemicals like a normal person. Instead we needed a dip to get that chemical release.  So you are correct in getting a bit of help from the doc. I did the same thing and I can name a dozen others. Anything you can do to stay quit is fair game. For example;

Deanthecunt- has a habit of feeding children to billy goats- his last two avatar pics display this bizarre ritual. He also is known to pee in front of his female neighbors as part of his morning

Ready- occupies his time with pet monkeys- ask him to tell you about it

Mule- is an exceptionally astute student of the haiku- although all of them talk about his tool.... perhaps overcompensating or maybe just proud to be here?

Volp/ flashman- every other friday volp pushes flashman around in a shopping cart while flash hits trannys with a wiffle ball bat. They usually sing Dianna Ross songs during this but recently have switched to Wham...because its funnier.

SmokeyG- took up bike riding and peddled his way across the ocean to scotland where he was subsequently run over by a scottish mum. He is also into geocaching and I am convinced has inserted an anal cache that he is hoping for Loot to find

Loot- Loot lost his mind somewhere around day 180 and now speaks in the third person. The Sienfield Character Jimmy is based on Loot. Of course so is Chuck Norris ... Dont fuck with loot. I got him a birthday cake last year and he ate the whole thing before I had a chance to tell him it had a stripper in it.

Kd4jet occupies his spare time staring at anything that bounces. Initially he was satisfied with a tennis ball but he has moved on to silicone.

Samcat- occupies herself.....and often

Of course you could take up a hobby like Rickymartinman- he is building a fleet of R.V.'s in his garage, and doing it well. I invoked his name to fix some leaky plumbing in my house today but oddly he didn't appear. I figure if that ham handed bastard can build a motor home I could fix a busted hose bib....wrong.......Rocky? Rocky? where art thou.

JpCrew- stay clear of this guy, he is a total pig
Niwot- out of his tree
Trapper- likes bald chicks
Greg40- Likes Bald dudes, you have hair right heretostay? if not just steer clear of ole g40, he'll tell you he loves you and in the morning you'll wake up chained to the basement floor with a red rubber ball in your mouth.

There are some other old timers around- like Remshot- he used to be in porn and he can't spell for shit.  It's RIM SHOT ,you  gotta help him out alot.

Can't forget 11x4- but I forget why
Corn- - This dude is all ears if you need help
Hydro- pretty good guy, but when I was new I thought he was all wet.

I could do this all night but I'll get off your page. Thing is there are a million personalities here. The common thread is we all carry the scars of nicotine addiction. They are mental, physical and emotional. It takes awhile to get yourself right. In the meantime as Ready and Mule say why don't you pull up a chair and quit a spell. but seriously... keep your kids away from Dean. The goat thing is just plain weird.

sup heretostay,

your in good company here, this place is full of high anxiety . Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on earth, anything you can do to beat it is fair game. Long term nic use hijacks your bodys ability to produce the "feel good" chemicals like a normal person. Instead we needed a dip to get that chemical release.  So you are correct in getting a bit of help from the doc. I did the same thing and I can name a dozen others. Anything you can do to stay quit is fair game. For example;

Thanks for the welcome guys. Wish I would had known about this site prior to my quit. Oh well, found it now and that's what matters.

Day 108. Started taking the meds a couple of days ago and the anxiety has gone down. I'm still chewing the snot out of Smokey Mountain though. Not ready to put that away just yet.

Here's to good days.
