Hey Salty, good for you. I'm in same boat.

Been chewin' for over 24 years, copenhell, and decided it's gonna stick this time. Tried to quit about 9 years ago, made it 3 months and thought it was gonna kill me. Went cold turkey. Wife ended up sending me to hospital, then several weeks later bought a can for me and said "start F@#$in' chewin again.

I know this site advocates cold turkey, dump it out, quit now!!!!!!, but this last try I already feel like I'm gonna beat it. I got some fake stuff (hooch, no advertisement) and started going 50/50 real/fake, only let myself take 3 dips a day. One in a.m., one after lunch, one in evening. Not easy for a guy who chewed almost constantly other than when sleeping, and (sometimes) eating. Went from 3 to 4 cans a week to 1 can in 7 days. Did that twice. Then went 25/75 real/fake 3 dips a day. Did that twice. Made it 11 days on 1 can. Finally, went 25/75 real/fake, two dips a day. Last can of cope lasted 15 days. First time in my life it was getting a little dry before I finished (that would have never happened before!!!!)

Anyway, weening help me out too Salty. I definitely feel the withdrawls, and sleep (or lack thereof) sucked last night, but I have to say, it is alot easier this time around on days one and two than the previous tries.

Well this is my first post and I have been reading over this site for 2 days now. My story sounds like alot of other stories on this board. I started dipping when I was 12 years old and I am going to be 40 this may. I have tried to quit many times before but I think it has been for all the wrong reasons. Mostly my wife bitching at me for doing it. I have been with her for 18 years and she knew I did it when we meet and when we got married. But now I have decided to do it for me, not her and not for the kids. I have quit now for 4 days and feel pretty good about it. I like most people have been a little grumpy, shakey and have headaches at night but I am expecting that until I can get it under control. Before I quit this time I started to ween my self off of it and I think that has helped me. The first week I only took 4 dips a day and the next week went to 3 dips and so on. Then for 2 weeks I was only taking one dip at night before bed. So here I am now on day 4 without a dip and ready to continue with out the snuff. What a difference from dipping over a can a day. Any way just wanted to say HI.
Welcome Quitter.

You can do this.

Good for you salty...Sounds like you are determined and doing it for all the right reasons. I too weened myslef off and think it helped. Your next big step is going over to June 09 and post roll with your quit group. It will keep you motivated and it serves as an accountability system. Just follow the directions on the bottom of their roll on how to post.
Welcome Salty! Huntemup says good words. Start posting roll daily and be proud of your quit! My wife had given up on me quitting too. Now my quit has put a new spark in our marriage, a totally unexpected side affect of kicking out the nic bitch. I think you'll like being quit.
