Cant believe i made it to day 18. i still crave after meals and want a dip often but the seeds are helping. Thanks for the encouragement guys. I quit with everyone who has sent me a good word today.
Three weeks today - that is pretty bad ass! :)

Keep taking this one day at a time and the days will stack up fast.
^^^ this bad ass felt the same way you are close to a year ago.... One day at a time, he's about to make his first nicotine free lap around the sun. The craves.... Get better. The way you feel... Isn't the new normal. The suck- sucks. Freedom does not suck. One day at a time bro. You are getting there. And you'll never have to relive the last 18 days.

Congrats James on the decision to take back your life. It's not easy but it can be done. And it's worth it.

In my addiction I had gotten to the point where the majority of the time I wasn't dipping becasue I enjoyed it but because I had to, in order to not feel miserable from withdrawal in between dips. After getting through the 1st couple of months it feels great to not be a slave to that little can.(I'm still here because I know there are more tough days in my future) Freedom feels 10 times greater than the buzz from NIC ever felt.

Get to know the people in your group and others who make an impression on you. Trade phone numbers with them. It took me a while to feel comfortable to do that but that's part of what will make this quit your last quit. Shoot one of them a text when you're not able to post roll so they can post for you. They'll be glad to do it for a fellow quitter and it'll make their quit stronger. Also those numbers will come in handy when you're having a craving. Shoot someone a text and let them know you're having a tough time. Sometimes just taking the time to send a text will be enough to defuse the craving. It'll make your quit and their quit stronger.(starting to see a theme?)

Spend a lot of time reading during these 1st few weeks. You'll find a lot of encouraging testimonies as well as testimonies of failures that you can learn from. And it'll take your mind off your cravings to some degree. Post and welcome newbies in this Intro section. You don't have to be a "Vet" to welcome someone to the site. The more you interact here the stronger your quit will be.

And remember, every time you have a craving, it just means you're winning. Every craving you don't indulge, you're rewiring your brain to learn to cope without NIC.

Mike1966 - 121 Days of freedom from the ball and chain!
I quit with you today James!
Just one and you will be back where you started.
And where you started was desperately wishing
you were where you are right now.

Welcome and a big Roll tide to you! I'm sure you were taught you can't go wrong with a winner! Climb on here, keep your hands in and enjoy the ride! Go VT! I live in Tennessee and am tired of hearing this is the year! Proud to be quit with you!
Tobacco is so addictive it took me a year after a massive heart attack, in which doctor confirmed caused from dipping to finally put a lid on the bitch! ODAAT EDD

Thank you so much for the encouragement guys. I will post roll everyday. I start a new job tomorrow and i just want to pave a new highway for my life. Grandpa, thank you for the kind words. Supplehands, I really appreciate the good word man. I started dipping on the golf course junior year. Thought I was such a cool guy then (yeah right). But we really are riding the same wave, glad we connected here. Btw, I hope VT kicks the Vols ass. I know you wanted some friendly retort but I hate the Vols i grew up in North Georgia and worked for Georgia Southerns football team in college. I pull hardest for them and pull for UGA in SEC play. I gotta aunt that graduated from VT with season tickets every year and a cousin about to be a freshman there. Go Hokies, please piss these Vols fans off that insist "this is the year!".

James
Awesome decision! I'm glad that you aren't waiting until you are 49 years old to quit like I did. :)

I was a white collar ninja dipper myself and I "stopped" all the time. I never really quit. Quitting takes focus and you need to maintain that focus every day. Somewhere here there is an introduction thread from a guy who had quit for 10 years, had a dip on a hunting trip with some buddies and bought a can on his way home! You won't ever be cured of your addiction but you can look it in the face every day and survive for the next 24 hours.

I quit with you today James!

Dr. J

I am 26 years old. I started late in high school and ended up carrying it through college making excuses all along the way. "I'll quit when..." Knowing full well what I was doing and how terrible it was for me. Well the addiction carried over into my professional career as well. I bring all this up because our stories are incredibly similar. You are not alone. You can do this. It won't always be easy, but it will ALWAYS be worth it.

My biggest piece of advice is to have faith. Have faith in Kill The Can, the people in your group, your daily promise, this process, and most of all yourself. When you can't pick yourself up or shake a crave, come to KTC to distract yourself. Do what it takes and make your quit your number one priority. Post roll every single day without exception.

If you need anything I'm here for you, because I am you. I'm a 26 year old nicotine addict from southwest Virginia. (VT is going to kick Tennessee's ass in Bristol by the way)

Dr. James,
By all means post roll today and everyday. You are young and have a lot of life ahead that nicotine will to nothing to improve. Use me as what you do NOT want to be.....mid 60's, heart disease, high blood pressure, missing teeth and who knows what else will jump up and bite me. Use this opportunity to keep your quit going and put your addiction under control.

Hi guys. Today starts day 7 for me with no nicotine. i had been wanting to quit for a long time but i just continued to roll into the next day and like a zombie start every day with a dip. I began to feel very guilty after ten years of dipping. I would sneak off in social settings to go get my fix for a few minutes, i had dip stains on my carpet, it had me in a choke hold and i was scared to fight out of it. Well last Monday i decided i was going to quit. I dumped my can out in the yard and struggled all day. At the end of the day before bed i caved. I bought one can, put half the can in my mouth and immediately felt like a puss. I threw the rest of the can away but of courses got that last dip in for all it was worth. So I start again on Tuesday. But this time it was like a switch flipped inside me. I thought often for the first 3 days...you can have a headache, or you can be a pussy. I chose to have a headache. I still choose to have a headache and use sunflower seeds as a great placebo. But overall everything is better already. I am enjoying the freedom of not sneaking off and putting a dip in. Im actually enjoying the struggle at this point. Im 25 and i never planned to be a lifelong dipper. I planned to dip in high school and in college and quit when i started professional life. Ive carried dip with me three years into professional life and the hex it had on me was strong. I am thankful that i seem to be making a clean break. But i will stay humble, embrace the struggle, post roll and lean on the Grace Jesus has shown me.

James welcome and congrats on your decision!
My advice is to post roll and get active on KTC, there are many of us that have 'quit' for a while only to think we are cured, to only fall back into using heavy again.
The accountability on this site prevents that from happening,
Stay strong
