Good on posting roll. A reminder and promise first thing every morning does help.

The "something is missing" is the oral fixation of chewing tobacco. Many quitters will use fake chew, or seeds or candy or jerky to separate that problem from nicotine. It will go away with time though. Perhaps you can support your fellows by asking that question in your group... others will want to know as well or may have a solution that works for you.

Part of the exchange of digits is so your fellows can reach out and support you if you are missing from roll, part is so you can text someone your promise if you aren't near a computer. We all struggle early.

The site's great. I feel bad, someone asked me to give some support on an email or via phone and I just don't have that kind of giving available right now. I don't feel as though if someone came to me for support I'd be much help. I don't feel like if I was really tempted I'd call out here for help. It's not in my nature.

Now that said, I am going to try continue to do the post roll. That to me is a good reminder and I think it can be helpful re staying quit.

Just wanted to talk generally about my quit this time. This is the fourth attempt. I've gone multiple years on prior quits but not much more. Most of those were when I was mainly smoking.

This quit, The full time tobacco "chew" quit feels different. Before when I quit once the nicotine was out of my system I was typically fine. Occasional reminders after eating, coffee, alcohol were present but that was always to be expected....

This round, it feels like something is missing. The act, the thing, the entity, the spirit. I feel like there's something else I should be doing. The chew was always there, something I needed to be sure to maintain.

Right this moment I don't feel a strong desire to go buy a can. If someone put an open can next to me right now I could easily say no, I'm feeling good and want to stay quit.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is I don't know why quitting this time has left a hole in me somehow. I've gotta fill it up with something or sew it up somehow.

Can anyone else relate to this oddness?

So I fell asleep with a toothpick in my mouth last night. Woke up with it still in place. Didn't taste like crap either when I awakened. Can't wait till the flavored ones arrive. Coffee's a bitch, gotta throw away that machine for a while I think.

Well, regarding alcohol. That's another story. I quit that cold turkey as well after overimbibing for way too long. Problem is I don't get severe withdrawls from quitting nicotine.

Tight head, irritability yes... But I don't get cold sweats and wake up multiple times a night like I do when I quit drinking abruptly.

I have the will to not drink, just haven't been able to get past the withdrawl symptoms. But this is the nicotine forum, I'll fight that other battle elsewhere.

Good thing is since I was chewing 24/7 I don't necessarily associate it with drinking.

Thanks for the responses.
Guess what. We have a Alcohol Quit group in here too. Stick around and you will be guided to it if you so desire. Think of it as one stop shopping

We post roll EVERY DAY. By posting EVERY DAY, we promise not to use nicotine in ANY form just for TODAY. Posting roll is making a promise to yourself and your quit brothers that you wont succumb to nicotine. It's one way to be held accountable to yourself and to ours who are quitting with you. It may sound silly or pointless, but take a look at the number of days of the people quit on roll (both by those during January 2016 Pre-HOF and the veterans). We can't quit for you, you have to do that yourself, but we promise to quit with you and give you advice along the way. So welcome and don't be a stranger.

Yes we post roll over and over. It is our daily promise to ourselves and our brothers/sisters in here that we won't use nicotine at all for the day.

It is the price we pay for admission. Takes less time to post than it takes to run to the store for a can.

This works. I started 616 days ago and haven't missed a day. You can do it too.

I was chewing tobacco from wake to sleep 24/7 for many years now.

My gums have suffered.

I've had a swollen lymph node the last two days as a reminder of this.

The disgusting smell of smoke had me wanting to steal a cigarette from her pack.

It always results the same, 2 cans a week.

I'm 44 and haven't dated since forever. Tobacco was a big part of that. I chose chew over companionship.

I don't know why I'm posting here.
You don't know why you are posting here?? Take a look at all of the reasons you have written. You are a nicotine addict and the addiction is fucking up your health and your social life.

Also, take some time to figure out how this site works. Learn how to post roll and do it every day. You need to stay away from your triggers alcohol and camping for at least 50 days until you get a solid quit going and develop relationships in your group. I figure one of the reasons you keep caving is because you have socially isolated yourself from anyone who will interfere with you feeding your addiction 24/7.

I don't really understand the link.
topic/11341759/342/#new
I mean I get it's people who quit during a period of time but it looks like the same post over and over.

Re the vape stuff, my sister rents a room from me but it's always locked when she's not home, it's as good as in the trash.

Cinnamon gum and plastic toothpicks have been my friend. Ordered some toothpicks.
http://www.flavoredtoothpicks.com/

Trading in the dip for a toothpick. The oral fixation is real, heading out for some more gum. Yesterday was the first day I felt better because of quitting. It's like you feel the majority of the last remnant of poison leave and your body feels better.

I'm still working out cleaning out my lungs. Because I swallowed the chew, some of it made it's way downstairs. Coughing in the morning kicks up some dark phlegm. Hoping that leaves the system soon too.

Glad your tooth's getting fixed invader. Forunately my lower teeth are rarely visible even when smiling.

This was almost chilling to read, WVC. We have a few similarities.

I'm 13 years younger than you, but I was very much in the same boat. In fact, speaking of crowns, I'm currently sitting here with half a front tooth in my head, waiting for my appointment to get a crown prep done on that tooth so a crown can be placed. I've never been so happy for an upcoming dentist appointment in my life so I can get back to smiling. Needless to say, tobacco, and my current dental situation has also put a damper on the ol' dating life.

But the important thing to take away from this is I'm rebuilding, and I know you can too. (Actually, this crown is the last thing I need done!) I'm glad to see you've been quit for a while on your own. I joined and remain at this site because every day we post roll call. That's a promise to the others on this site that you won't use nicotine in any form for the day. See, like you, I found it to be easy to lie to myself. "You can have just one..." However, I can't lie to the people here whom I've made friends with. Therefore, I find the accountability here to be huge.

Give it a shot, man!

Welcome to quit... the first three attempts were stops / interludes of freedom. We all have been there.
Quote
What I need to figure out how to convince myself is that I'll never be strong enough to take a dip on the weekends. Or at the bar. Or camping.
That is what KTC is about. We use a simple technique: we quit for today, then wake up tomorrow and quit for one day again. That we can do, that you can do. never / forever are words that lead to failure. Simply quit, commit to not using nicotine for 24 hours. You can and have done that 10 days in a row. add today, then add tomorrow.

Step 1: flush your nicotine (you gave away your vape equipment, it may still be too close at hand-- I for one worry about that).

Step2: go to your quit group (likely February 2016), post roll -- your daily promise to not use nicotine.

Step 3: exchange digits with fellow quitters to create a support network that can respond on weekends, or at the bar, or camping -- wherever and whenever craves arrive.

Step4: read everything on this site, join the live chat, get involved and own your quit... make quit bigger than addiction.

You have 10 days solo. That is bad ass! I quit with you today.
