Kidb,

Like you, I stopped dipping before lots of times. Personally, the thought of "quitting forever" always overwhelmed me. I simply couldn't picture myself quitting forever. I didn't believe I could do it.

But then somebody told me to forget about "quitting forever." Nobody here was asking me to quit forever. So forget about it. In fact, forget about tomorrow, next week, next month, etc. Just control of what you can...today. Anybody can go one day, right? And I was encouraged by the thought that we're all in this together and we'll all deal with tomorrow when it gets here.

That was what I needed to hear. Just thinking in those terms cut the bitch down to size where I could get my head around it. It's like the joke about how to eat an elephant...one bite at a time.

That is how quitting is done...one day at a time. 50 days is a great start. Congratulations! But, that is all it is...a start. Today is what matters. And we're living free today. Stay strong and stay quit, brother!

Thoughts after 50 Days

I haven't spent too much time posting my thoughts here but think that 50 days is as good a time as any to get my ass in gear so I can look back as I continue to look forward.

I feel real good about having 50 days quit under my belt. On one hand 50 days is less than 2 months and doesn't sound like all that much. On the other hand, 50 minutes felt like a long time to go without reaching for a tin of skoal before so I'll take even 1 day let alone 50. I quit one time before and then caved and went back after almost a year being quit. This time, that won't happen. Why?

Because now I know the truth. I am an addict and can never again allow myself to put even a single dip in my mouth. I can never again think that I am stronger than this shit. I can never again become a slave to something that will take me away from my wife, my kids, my life. I also know now that I must wake up each day and quit all over again, post roll and stay true to my promise.

To be continued....

I am still a newb...been quit 10 days now and did not think I would make it this far.

Best word of wisdom I have seen on this site, and I cannot remember from whom, is this:

You don't have to quit forever. You will die before that. Just quit for today

PM me if u can. All the best...dalgyboy

Cbird directed me to this and I like this quit plan. Thanks Cbird.

-Post roll every-day
-Keep your word
-Repeat
-Tell everyone around you that you are quit. Ask for their support.
-Involve your wife, your kids, family, anybody close to you in your quit.
-Demand that your "buddies" respect your decision. If they don't, they aren't you buddies.
-Tell dippers that you will dump their can on the floor if they let you get a hand on it.
-Get as many number as you can. I have 35 and I have used almost 20 of them. How many do you have?
Keep in touch with your quit brothers. Send them a text or call every few days just to keep an open line of communication.
-Give them your email address
-Make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to go a day without several people contacting you all day if you don't post roll.
-Have fake, gum, mints, atomic fire balls, orange peels, tea bags, ginger, seeds, whatever helps keep you quit handy at all times wherever you are.
-Be willing to do anything to get in contact with a quit brother to post roll. Call text, use a pay phone, hike to a spot with cell service, whatever.
-DO WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO TO STAY QUIT!”

Dtrain,

Right there with you. Today is my day one post on here and my 12 th day without any nic.  I just turned 42 a week before you on Nov. 4th. Been trying to get myself to quit for too long. Thought I had it kicked a few years ago after going a year without using but fell off the wagon after thinking as so many that I could stray a little and not get hooked again. I was wrong.  Been hooked on Scoal long cut for about 13 years and this time I'm quit.  Took my last dip on Friday morning Nov 2nd before taking family to Disney for a 5 day weekend and god help me I'm done. This time I'm quit and I will never dip again.

Congratulations on making the best decision you could make. Just take it one day at a time and read all you can on the site. Their are a lot of great people here that would drop anything to help a fellow quitter. Again, congrats on kicking tobacco to the curb and if you need anything feel free to pm me anytime.

Congrats on a great choice, Kidb. Twelve days is a great start. The nicotine is out of your body now. But keeping it out is really the toughest part. I like your comments about addiction. Learning about nicotine addiction will really help your quit.

Click on the "Welcome Center" link above and read how to post roll. That is the key to staying quit. Also, click on the "Killthecan.org" link above and read the Tom and Jenny Kern Story. Their story was a huge source of strength for me.

YOU can do this, brother. PM me if you need anything.

Kid when I quit I'd been married 32 years and had hid it from my wife all the time. She had caught me a couple times. When I quit I came clean about my addiction and she laughed and said "you think I'm that dumb? I could smell it all the time and you left crumbs everywhere." My wife is my #1 contact now and the freedom from lying to my her is even a greater relief than the freedom from the nicotine! Like you i have two little kids to watch grow up, grandkids. If I can help in any way pm me!

You can do this. Many have stories very similar to yours. One day at a time. If I can do it, you can do it.

Done for good!!!
« on: November 14, 2012, 12:41:00 AM »
Today is my 12th day clean and I don't ever want to go back. Been dipping Scoal longcut on and off for about 22 years since college and been truly addicted for at least the last 12 years. Turned 42 a little over a week ago and finally ran out of excuses to put off quitting any longer. I would like to be around to see my 2 little kids grow up and that wont happen if i don't make some big changes fast. Expected to go it alone as no one including my wife of 10 years knows that I was dipping even though I was dipping almost 2 cans a day but came across this site and have spent enough time here today to know this is going to be a big help.

I'm not asking for luck and am finally ready to own my addiction and learn to live with it but will gladly take the support we all seem to need, especially in the first few weeks.
