Hello everyone. Thank God I found this site. I'm 25 years old and serving in the US Marine Corps for 7 years now. Been dipping off and on since I was 14-15. I started because I thought it was the cool thing to do and everyone on the baseball team was doing it. I grew up in the country and I actually tried dip for the first time in the 1st grade....grape bandits. Don't ask me how I got it.
I quit dipping for a few years and started smoking. I dropped smoking and came back to dipping. Now I have two kids and I NEVER want them to try this nasty shit.
So, here I am on my never-ending cycle of "trying" to quit. The longest I've made it is about 3 months cold turkey. I always give in after something or someone triggers my addiction. I really feel like a weak little bitch and I'm really ashamed I keep relapsing and going back to this nasty shit.
Well, I apologize for the ramble. You will probably find me doing this on here from time to time just because I need to vent. I am here because I don't want to die from a selfish habit and leave my wife and kids here without me. Thanks for reading and I look forward to making some great friendships on this site.
Deat,

Your story is one I have heard over and over. All our stories are similar. I few thoughts for you that I think I will share.

1st - you are not weak. A Marine with kids. That is not a weak man. Sounds to me like you are a bad ass. What you are is an addict. Yes an addict. Your mind is addicted so it isn't about weakness it is about learning how to control your thoughts and cravings as an addict. This site will offer you the tools, education, and accountability to quit.

Next there is no "try" to quit here. You just quit each day. An addicted mind, there is no cure only control. So you must never focus on being quit forever. You have to trick your mind into quitting each day and never think about quitting tomorrow, next week, a year from now or forever. Only focus on staying quit today. If tomorrow comes you post roll then. Get into the habit of posting roll each day you wake and keep your word. That is simple but the people who do it, stay quit. Those that don't post roll, they are at a much greater risk to cave.

It isn't going to be all sunshine and rainbows to quit. It is hard. Bootcamp for an addict is and should be difficult. You are fighting for your freedom. I will tell you that the rain clouds will part from time to time and you will have feeling of victory and excitement to be in control of your addiction.

Just to clarify, you are totally free of nicotine, right? No gum, patches, cigars etc.
Did you post roll and are you quit today? If so PM me and I would be happy to be a supporter in your quit.

Congrats on your quit. You are strong to do this and can be successful if you want it.

Deat,

First and foremost, thank you for your service. I don't care what day this passed Monday was, I would have thanked you none the less. I'll probably thank you again before the year ends.

Second, you have come to the right place. This site will A) help you quit and B) save your life. It takes effort, courage, and accountability...three things that I think will come easy to you based on your line of work. We do it one day at time here. That's all. Sometimes an hour at a time. No reason to worry about how you will quit tomorrow when you are doing this, or next week when you are going to do that. ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Here's how you do it, in this order. Dump your cans. Keep NOTHING. Flush them. This is a no nicotine site, so no gum or patches. Next, click here and read every word. That is the Welcome Center and it explains how and why this site works. Once you have finished that, come back here and continue reading. Go ahead....I'll wait.

Good, now you finished the welcome center. You understand that posting roll is your daily promise to stay nic free for the day. Post it early in THE day, not YOUR day. Get your promise in, and take using off the table. Posting roll can be tricky, so click here to watch a very short video on how to do it right. Easiest way to learn.

Now, you know what you are doing, why you are doing, and how to do it. Last thing is to do it. You are joining the September '12 quit group. Why September and not May or June? September is the month when you would hit 100 consecutive days of being nic free. Click here , post roll, and start the freedom that you so richly deserve.

I'm a civilian, but if I had to guess, the brotherhood that you will find on this site to assist you in your quit will be just as strong as the brotherhood you have in the Corps. Check your Inbox (1) as I have sent you a quick message and my cell phone number. Use it if you need it.

Drink plenty of water, get plenty of exercise, come here to vent (don't take it out on the family) and use Nyquil or Tylenol PM to help you sleep for the first couple of nights.

Glad to be quit with you bro.
