2. When consuming alcohol. (have not come across this just yet, but will be a big hurdle)

More detail on the alcohol:
I haven't drank in a few weeks, so I haven't come across this crossroad just yet. I ONLY drink when I visit my friends at college about once or twice a month. I know the urge to dip when I drink is going to be very strong the first time I do. I'm a bit curious of how I'll feel/respond when this happens.
Welcome.

First: Post roll in January HOF group. That's the cost of entry here. It's also your promise to me and everyone else here that nicotine is not an option for 24 hours. You'll get to know some other new quitters and gain some accountability.

Second: Make the decision you already know you need to make. Based on your post, you know alcohol will be a problem. Just quit drinking for a while. I stopped completely for several months when I first quit nicotine. It was worth it. Alcohol has probably been the killer of more quits than anything else. You know what you need to do. Maybe you just needed confirmation, so here it is.

Third: Read the info available here. Need a place to start? HOF speeches are enlightening. Mine is linked in my signature lines below.

Reach out if you need anything. I'm only a PM away, just like everybody else on this site.

(First off I would like to apologize for the structure/order of this post I'm new here and not quite sure where to begin or exactly what to say)

I've dipped grizzly wintergreen for approximately five years. The past few years I've dipped around 3 to 5 cans a week.

Quitting this nasty habit has been in the back of my mind for the past year. But I've put more serious thought into quitting the past couple of months.

I'm disgusted by the way this can has had so much control of me. I WANT TO TAKE BACK CONTROL! Plus the simple fact I've payed someone for poison to slowly kill me all these years is completely ridiculous.

I'm currently on day 7 of no tobacco.

I arrived at this point, because I had a bill to pay last week that drained my bank account and I couldn't even afford to buy a can the past 7 days.

I received some money earlier today and the temptation to buy a can was VERY strong. Currently, I feel my willpower is at an ALL TIME HIGH right now to defeat this habit.

I had to go put gas in my car tonite, so I have enough to make it to work tomorrow. This was very risky because tobacco was just a few feet away from the counter tempting me

Heres what I did, I left my I.D. at the house prior to leaving on purpose just to prevent me from purchasing a can. (The logic behind this is silly I know, but it's the truth; I'm 23 and I get asked for my ID a lot some reason. The thought of being asked for ID and not having my ID is terribly embarrassing to me. Which happened several times when I was younger, so I will very rarely will try to purchase without an ID) Proud to say I left the gas station without a can of dip.

I feel this was a good test tonite. It helped me gauge just how serious I am about this commitment.

The physical withdrawal symptoms have not been that bad.

But by far the most difficult part currently is MENTALLY breaking the habits or "rituals" for lack of a better term. Below is a list in order of the strongest urges.

1. WHEN I DRIVE. By leaps and bounds this is the strongest urge time.
2. When consuming alcohol. (have not come across this just yet, but will be a big hurdle)
3. Having a dip after almost every meal (this urge is slowly getting weaker)
4. When I watch my favorite sports events (a lot of college football games on saturdays and Lakers games throughout the week)

More detail on the alcohol:

As of right now, I'm just looking daily for anything to keep my focus/motivation up high to combat the urges. Reading this board has helped tremendously tonite. Reading and relating to other peoples stories and soaking in the article links from the home page. This site has helped me better understand the road ahead and what's at the end of the road. I also know now I'm not alone with this.

With all that said about the background info on my addiction and my path of beating this so far. It would be VERY helpful if anyone out there could share some tips or their experience with breaking the urge to dip while driving if they've had any!
