So, first, the introduction. My name is John, I'm 25, and I've been dipping for 7 years. I've tried quitting in the past (managed a month and a half without dipping thanks to the patch), but nothing has worked.
I was never addicted to cigarettes when I first started smoking (I was a stress smoker, probably less than a pack a month). But as soon as I dipped the first time, I was hooked. A few months after, I promised myself I would quit by the time I turned 25. I figured, if I could quit by then with no real consequences, I would be alright. But my birthday has come and gone, and I'm just as hooked as I ever have been.
Not only is it a new years resolution (that's what everyone says, right?), but I really do want to quit. Aside from a few more cavities then usual, I haven't had any major problems. But I realize it's time to quit. And I don't know how to.
The last time I thought about quitting, I bought some fake stuff, but it tasted so terrible I couldn't. For the record, since I started, I've only used long cut Grizzly wintergreen. Every once in a while some Skoal, but usually Grizzly only.
My thought has been, if I could find some fake stuff that tastes the same, it would make it much easier.
I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to really kick the habit. I really do want to quit, but between the nicotine rush and the physical habit of having a dip in my lip (once an hour, about a tin a day), I don't know how.
