I came across this site a long time ago when i was just debating on quitting. Now it's time to grow up and give this shit up. I've been dipping since i was 16, I'm 24 now and I go through a can and a half a day. I'm quitting because I'd actually like to keep the teeth in my mouth and not have to hide anything from new people that I meet. Any tips on coping with the haze or recommendations for tobacco free dip? Or should i just stay away from it?
Mtkid - welcome aboard and congrats on taking control of your life again. Lots of stories similar to yours here, some that have stayed quit, others that didn't hold the line for one reason or another. All the resources, support, and guidance that you could possibly want is all here -- dig in, read until your eyes hurt, and drop in for the occasional chat room. All of it will help reinforce your quit, particularly in the first few days when it can be a rough adjustment. Need a diversion? Get a liter container of water and go through at least six of them a day, and keep gum, seeds, fake dip, etc. everywhere where you're accustomed to dipping. When in a panic, reach out to someone in the May 2014 group.

But first thing's first: get yourself in the May 2014 Quit Group ("Project Mayhem") and post roll (index.php?showtopic=50). This is the foundation of your quit. Your Mayhem brothers have faith that you can keep your word for one day, and that's all we ask -- both of you and ourselves. One Day At A Time -- don't complicate it. Don't worry if you screw it up the first couple times -- it'll become second nature soon enough. Check your inbox.
All of us in Mayhem are here for you. I for one am a second-timer to KTC. I've caved before and I can tell you from personal experience that it is something that you will always regret. Talk to your brothers, keep in contact, and quit for yourself and for your brothers. We are all here for you, and we will all kill nic together.

Hey buddy, I'm right here with you. I'm feeling hazy as ever. What helps me is exercise, and as hard as it is spending time with other people helps me get out of my brain. You can do anything you put your mind to buddy, I believe in you!!!
Use the fake dip if it helps you. Whatever it takes. You need to get really educated about, and pissed off at, the tobacco/nicotine industry. They want your money, your offspring, and your slow death. They could give a shit about your breath, teeth color, and new relationships. They want you to die slowly as their slave. They want you to pay them your hard earned cash to slowly kill yourself.

Quit every damn day, this is fucking war!!! Commit to saving your own life.

The fog will begin lifting soon. For me those times I couldn't sleep or think I got online and got consumed in reading HOF speeches and words of wisdom. I will say your comment about wanting to keep your teeth hit a cord for me. I'm 56 and stopped for 3 years when I was 24 but started up again. Over the next 30 years I lost almost half of my teeth, had multiple gum grafts and more painful I missed my daughter grow up, a f***ing can of poison was more important to me. As far as fake dip, I used it for about 80 days continually and then I lost interest. I personally liked smokey mountian best and still have a can but haven't opened it in almost a year. Most important, post roll daily.

Welcome aboard brother! The best advice I can give you is to make sure you want to quite before you start this journey, because I can promise you that if you don't want to quit for yourself, it will never last. Personally, for me, tobacco free dip just didn't do it. It tasted like shit and all it did was make me want the real thing more. It doesn't hurt to try, different things work for different people. And Garrett32 has a good point, the best way that I've found for staying away is to keep busy. The more time you have to sit down by yourself and think, the more you'll think about chew. As far as getting through the haze, the best thing you can do is just take it one day at a time. Tell yourself, "I'm quit for today." And then wake up tomorrow and say it again. One day at a time.
