I thought it would be good to take a look at my first day here on the site as i sit at day 50. Just a quick reflection back on my long road forward.

It is good to see that everything i struggled with in the beginning happens to all of us, old and new. Talk of the funk when i started was nothing compared to the rage of those first few days. When the funk did come, I knew what to do thanks to everyone here.

It is amazing how powerful reading others experiences have been. The ability to prepare and be ready for the tough times makes it easier to get through. No less a struggle but manageable knowing others have been here and have made it through. Why not me, right?

CanÂ’t wait for the Hall and beyond.
Never forget what got you to the point you are. It is easy to get relaxed and that is when bad things happen. Great work to this point, keep it up.

STAY CLEAN
Greg

the funk is bad, you can make it. it's nothing unusual but be careful. one of the posters below gave me great advice early in my quit (thanks skoalmonster)...power through and keep focused on the moment, not using. i spend (and still spend) most of my funky times in here, they do get shorter and easier to handle as you move farther away from using...i promise...time killer here and effin' funny

I'd like to add a "me too". Fuck I feel like burnt toast today. I have excercised. I am just fuckin' bummed and freaked out...again...over the idea that I chewed for almost 30 years. It never gets easier to write that. The shame and guilt and embarrassment verge on overwhelming. Oh well...as SM said how could you feel better in (insert days here - mine is 21) when you spent thousands poisoning yourself? Hanging in but today sucks balls.
Maybe it is the change of season, the full moon tomorrow or the fact that we are all kicking the shit out of the NIC bitch.

Either way, i have to thank everyone for posting on this site day in and day out. If it were not for this site and all of you, i would not be at day 38.

ARRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

Now that feels good.

Its like this Fort ole boy, ( think british accent).

You have been using a stimulant and neuro toxin ( nicotine ) . now your not. Your body is REALLY USED to that and your internal wiring is a mess ( think LA freeway at rush hour)  thanks to chewing. Your body isn't back to working normally by a long shot so give it time. Exercise will help jump start your system and kick you out of the funk.  But like a fat chick with a crush, the funk will keep coming back.

Good news is this, the funk is a sure sign your body is trying to get back to normal, your healing!!  AND the episodes of the funk become further and further apart. This is all normal. You can't poison yourself for years and expect NOT TO feel shitty and depressed after a month or two of being clean. It takes awhile to heal. Hell, I've had zits that took longer than your 38 days to clear up.  Just chill lil buddy its all good, just stay quit today.

sm

p.s. you don't have to go to the gym, just take a walk around the block or couch if your really out of shape, and lay off the pringles there porky.
Thanks for the overall upbeat note, Skoal Monster. It is good to know my body is healing. I know my mouth and gums feel great and my mind is coming to grips with things. I guess i wasnt expecting the Funk Monster too.

BTW, I can take a walk around the block but i have found a new love for ice cream sandwiches. MMMMMMMMMM..........

"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

I've battled depression most of my adult life. My trick is to keep my mind occupied with work or personal projects.

Sex, excercise, work, anything physical will help.

So here I am at day 38. Feeling good, no cravings that I notice. The nic bitch is in her place and I can get through the day. My probelm is at night when I am at home winding down, I am in a lazy funk. Just not motivated to do anything and even TV doest get me going and then in the morning, I wake up with a depressed feeling.

Any thoughts on when this will pass or how to change this?

I know I should get up and do something, just dont feel like it. LOL

I've done just about everything with a dip in... including having sex. It will get better after the first couple of weeks. I chew gum mostly to fight cravings.
I remember patting the back pocket everytime I headed for the private bathroom at work here. Did that for a couple of weeks. Taking a shit without a dip was unheard of...dude, everyone has done what you have done. Trust me, trust them, you can do it. I am about to go take a nice mean one, dip free. Can't give up the paper, but don't need a dip.

Dave you should get together with Deano, he liked to fuck and dip too.
My wife didn't like it at all but I loved it.
not when the dip cup is on her ass.
