Thanks for the support guys. Thought of your posts everytime I wanted to sneak out of work and take that short drive to the "tin store". Made it to day two...but still on the patch. I hope you guys are wrong. I hope the patch works for me. As far as I can see, atleast I'm better off than a few days ago when I was stuffing a huge fatty in my mouth. Thanks again.
My biggest suggestion would be to get some fake shit for your cravings. When a craving hits, you will know the shit your putting in your lip is fake and you will not be fooled.....but the cool thing is : this moment of clarity is just that.............a moment.
After a few minutes of rejecting the fake shit, your body and mind will just accept it and you can get some relaxation!!!
Sounds trivial, but you will need every moment you can grab that isn't consumed by thoughts of dip (w/ nicotine).
Come on in to April, post up and say hello to all of the support that one can handle.....
you can and will quit........one way or another.

wpierce,

nah, your good bro. You'll be just like me, I quit with the patch a bunch of times . It has just enough nicotine to keep you in a long slow withdrawl, kind of like trying to stab yourself with a butter knife. The studies that support NRT are crap as far as I'm concerned. They used double blind studies, but if they gave your ass a placebo I bet you'd know right? I mean I woulda been fiending for a chew if they gave me the fake patch and I KNOW EXACTLY what that feels like. So how the fuck can they say with any truth that the shit helps you.?

Seriously, it's not that you can't quit, it's that you wont. Just fucking man up and make the call. Most long term successful quits are cold turkey. Wear the patch if you must, but follow the directions without any deviation. My opinion from multiple attempts with the patch and gum was that it just kept me hooked on nicotine. It's like a alchoholic switching from whiskey to light beer.

If you really want to quit just decide that you'll deal with the first 72hrs and all the shit that comes with it . No matter how much it sucks you'll handle it without chew.

The pain of quitting is temporary but the pain of cancer is infinite
. It will suck, but it is the price you pay to earn your freedom. Quit being a nancy boy, jello spined UST donating, cancer sucking zombie. You must be tired of being sick and tired by now, just step into the ring. If I can do it so can you. 2 cans a day, started at 15, ramped up in college, quit at 38. Would give my left nut to go back in time and quit at 32. The pain, money, health, relationship problems you will incur if you keep chewing won't be worth it.

I swear it will get better, just roll with the program here, just take the shit out of your yap, rip of the faggity patch and quit

"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

Made it 24 hours. Tried the last couple days but caved. I'm 32 and started dipping at 16...weekends only. College changed that into a 5 tin a week habit. The last 5 years has been a 1 1/2-2 can a day habit (sometimes more). I feel like I'm reading about my life when I read all the stories and posts. Thanks for the site! Anyone have any positive or negative experiences using the patch to aid in quitting?
Go to the April quit group and read the posts from the two guys who just quit using the patch so they could be nic free. Get off the patch and get your life back.
