Mbecker, I just noticed you haven't posted roll. You need to join December 2017, post your name, quit day and promise. No need to quit alone. KTC works and it all starts with posting roll daily.

It angers me to see it in the gas stations like a deer mount on display. Minute by minute for me. I'm not thinking about it only when I sleep. I wake up wondering if the nightmare is over, and the dip is back. Crazy stuff.

It did nothing for you. It created a void, then took credit for filling it. Only to create another void to fill 40 minutes later. Over and over and over. It is like wearing really uncomfortable shoes just to experience the relief of taking them off.

I decided to quit after much thought. The guilt got to me. I'm figuring this out day by day. Did the dip help me through the day, or was it something else? Those are rhetorical questions but the answers I'm searching for.

Mbeckler, I can promise you that it will get better. I had quit about 15 years ago for nearly 1 year. Cold turkey... well, Big Red chewing gum stocks went up that year but no other help. It was hell. I didn't have any type of support like here at KTC back then and was simply doing it on my own. I had made a promise to my wife to stop, after 20 years (at that time) of using snuff. She had promised to quit smoking at the same time so we had only each other to help us. It was very hard for the first few days, now knowing that was getting the nicotine out. Then the "urges" were kicking in full time! But after a few more days it did seem to get easier to get my mind off of it. After a couple months, I was pretty much in control and proud of myself for getting there! But what I didn't expect was that the triggers would ebb and flow. There were things that I hadn't expected, like hunting season, that would trigger me hard since it came later in the year after I had stopped. Then at around the 11.5 month mark, I felt like I could try it again (just to remember what it was like, is what I told myself) but that was a mistake. Cause then after just on dip, I was making excuses for why I needed the next one tomorrow.

My point it, it WILL get easier with a little time, to "control yourself"... but you will NEVER be cured of addiction. Just keep telling yourself that you have come this far, and you don't want to ever have to start over again! Know that you can't ever think you can "just take one more dip"... cause you can't. I'm a 2 time quitter-but-got-weak person. This is my last time being a quitter, cause after 35 years of that crap... I have to give myself a break! If you need anything, PM me and I'll get you my number!

Mbecker, couple things. Don't think out that far. Right now you need to focus just on today. The tomorrows will take care of themselves. You are stressing yourself unnecessarily by thinking out too far. There is a reason we only quit one day a time here.

Second, we will never stop being addicts, that is true. We can't unring that bell. Day 15 sucks. But it is NOT your new normal.
This gets so much better. Believe it.

Edit: one more thing. You have to learn to stop romanticizing dip. You need to read as much as you can on nicotine addiction. This site has great resources, whyquit.com has great articles and videos. Learn what nicotine did to you, how it rewired your brain. You will learn to hate it, really hate it. Because you need to realize that you are ridding your life of something horrible. As long as you still romanticize dip and nicotine, you are going to make this quit harder than it has to be.

Pm me if you need anything.
