Day 95

It has been along time since I posted here, but I wanted to share something with anyone considering joining this site. Below is an e-mail I received from another quit website, which I signed up for before finding KTC.

It's been 7 days since you logged on to ChewFree.com, and 92 days since you told us
you quit. If you're still not using tobacco, congratulations! Please consider coming back to
our Forum to give your advice to others who are trying to quit. You can also use the
Staying Quit and Resources sections of the program to help you deal with issues that
many quitters experience.

If you've returned to using tobacco, don't be discouraged. Just click on the link below and
set a new quit date. You might find it helpful to review the Planning to Quit, Staying
Quit, and Resources sections of the program to find helpful information and advice on
quitting and staying quit.

XXXXX XXXXXX, PhD
I am not posting this to bash the other site. I did not find KTC until day 4, and cheefree.com really helped me out the first three days. I still go back to it every couple weeks and check up on the site, but I am way more active here.

But there are three things that jumped out at me when I read this e-mail, which I think make Kill The Can superior to any other site I have come accross.

1. "It's been 7 days since you logged on". - If you dont post roll call by the afternoon, it will be noticed here. You will get text messages, PM's, and e-mails from your quit brothers  sisters demanding your accountability.

2. "If you've returned to using tobacco, don't be discouraged" - That is a phrase you will never hear at KTC. Returning to tobaccoo is not an option. We quit here, failure is not an option; we make a daily promise not to use nicotine. If you break your word to us, we will not just brush it off and tell you "Its ok, just try again". You will have to work hard to earn back our trust.

3.XXXXX XXXXXX, PhD - I deleted the guys name for confidentiality, but wanted to point out that he is PhD. This guy is probably "book" smarter then any guy here. But here, the advise you are recieving are from people that have been in the same place you are. Every person on this site is a nicotine addict, knows how you are feeling, and knows what you need to do to quit.

In conclusion, this post is for any guest/ member is who is waiting or thinking about quiting. You are reading this, so I know you want to quit. The KTC approach is the best way to quit, in my opinion. All you need to do is go to the February 2012 group and post day 1. If you do that, you will get more support and guidance then you could hope for.
Have to say, what a crock of shit. I'd love to see the success rate of that site...I bet it doesn't hold a candle to this place. Wow...."don't be discouraged"....oopsy, can just try again while we give you a pat on the ass. Ha, I would never have succeeded in that forum.

By the way, kick ass 95!

I see a lot of new quitters in here today and is getting me excited. Its hard to believe that just two short weeks ago was my day one. It sems a lot longer ago. Before my quit, I honestly could not imagine myself being without chew or being able to quit. Today I cannot ever see myself with chewing or using nicotine again.

For the newbies, here are some of the good and bad things I have learned and expereinced my first 15 days quit.

1. I would not be able to make it throughout the day with my jerky chew, seeds and gum.

2. I did not by the fake chew until day 10. I have had a few pinches. It is not something I have to use daily, but it was nice in a couple situations that where "big triggers" for chewing.

3. Now, during the day, I can easily go 15-20 minutes without thinking about chew or my quit. It might not seem that long but the first week, I swear I had a thought every sixty seconds.

4. I spent a lot of time reading on hear. This is a great place to go when you are in the "fog" and cannot concentrate.

5. When I read advice and stories from other's, my quit gets stronger

6. When I give advice and help to others, my quit gets even stronger.

7. It still feels wrong to through away a coffee cup or a 20 oz. bottle.

8. I will quit for today.

9. I will post roll tomorrow morning.

10. The next day I will.....well I will worry about that when it gets here.

day 4
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:46:00 PM »
Hello, I have been chewing for about 11 years now. I am proud to say that I am now 4 day's chew free. I have been chewing a lot of seeds and jerky chew, and have been going strong with out tobacco. The first couple nights I had difficult times sleeping, but other than that, the cravings have been managable. Today the cravings seem to be a little stronger.

Looking forward to joining a quit group and living a chew free life.

Steve
