Two weeks!! That's a long time to blame the smell on the weird guy in the corner.

Thanks everyone for the support. Day 5 picked up. I got busy, and was able to knock the monkey on my back out cold for a little while. By the time he came to, I had already moved on.

Derk, I'd love to take credit for the early post, but I have a 12 hour headstart on you guys.

Good stuff here bro. These victories start to come quicker and last for longer the more +1's you rack up. There's a lot of healing to go through and your mind and body will do some trippy shit to you... enjoy it! This is recovery and you never want to have to go through it again! You need anything, let me know. I'll be glad to help in any way. Quit with you...
Well, it’s one louder, isn’t it? It’s not ten.

Hey, thanks everyone. Yesterday was pretty good. I still find myself absentmindedly reaching for my can in my cargo pocket without even thinking. I have been chewing a lot of gum and eating sunflower seeds (which I dislike even at the best of times) and it helps. I tried picking up some of the tobacco alternatives but they don't sell it here. You can buy every type of chewing tobacco though. I may order some or just try to ride it out with the gum.

New development regarding withdrawal symptoms yesterday though. Years of swallowing gallons or dip spit every day and my GI tract decides that quitting is a bigger problem. There is a smell of death that escapes me about every half hour and I think that last night I nearly killed the two women running on the treadmills beside me. Thankfully, the gym was pretty packed, so they were not able to isolate its source. Lets hope I move past this problem quickly.

Welcome aboard the quit train Brother. You have come to the right place. That last little stoppage was nice, but on here you will learn to quit with the help of this site. You have the hard part right now, but we are behind you...in fact, we are over 16,000 strong! I would say your family of brothers increased alot today. PM me if you have any questions, concerns, or just need to vent, rant or shoot the shit. I will quit with you today. Wayne

Scrawny, your story sounds an awful lot like mine, same age too. There might be no good reason, but there's a human reason just the same. So try not to worry about what happened in the past, but remember, everybody here is moving forward one day at a time  awesome help is just a click or phone call or text away. This site is awesome so far

I am 38 years old and have ....... dipped for a majority of my life. I started ...... when I was 15 and switched to dipping because it was easier to hide at work. I have quit twice.
^^^^ Me too. All of this is true for me, too. Same age. Same timeframe. Same dumbass decisions.

Thanks for sharing your backstory. First: it is a good reminder that as addicts we are NEVER cured. We will always be just one dip away from a full relapse back to using a can a day. Secondly: you're not alone. That same failure is a painful chapter in the history of many folks here.

Read all you can here, post roll religiously, honor your word, get some contact numbers of other quitters, use those numbers, and get to know some folks. That's how you build accountability.

Let me know if you need help.

Glad you made it SL. Just to clarify it doesn't sound like you ever quit before. That's what we do here ODAAT. How? We choose to post roll call. We choose to get to know people and let people get to know us. We choose to get involved. We choose to help others. We choose to quit. We. We. We. Grab one of the many hands extended to you and welcome to the life you never knew existed. Freedom.

Day 4 and Counting
« on: August 22, 2013, 02:10:00 AM »
I am 38 years old and have smoked and dipped for a majority of my life. I started smoking when I was 15 and switched to dipping because it was easier to hide at work. I have quit twice. The first time was only for three months, but the second time was for seven years.

That's right, seven years. I am an idiot. The dumbest thing I have ever done was to stop in that gas station and pick up some Copenhagen. That was two years ago. I won't go into the reason why because there is never a good enough reason to start up again once you have this thing on the ropes. Hopefully this can serve as a cautionary tale for someone in here. You can never let your guard down with this crap.

I am on day four this time around. Day two was terrible. Much worse than I remembered from before. I was in a fog, confused, achy and nauseous. It is amazing how deep this stuff sinks it claws into you. Yesterday and today have been better. I am done with this stuff for good and I am glad I found this site.

I promise to keep checking in, taking deep breaths, and keepin' on keepin' on.
