Yes, you can get cancer after dipping for only a short time. Most likely you don't have it, but see a doctor.

Read the story of 19 year old Sean Marsee.
He dipped longer than you, but came to see terrible consequences at a young age.

Yes, that's a terrible hearbreaking story, and the reason I am quitting. I've never gone through a can in a day or a day and a half though. I'd like to get a doctor's appointment, or dentist's appointement, but both my parents and myself will be hard-pressed to afford one, so I want to be really sure it is cancer.

It is conforting to know that others on this site have experienced similar scares. One thing is for sure though, no more tobacco.

Good Luck and see a Dentist.
I bled like a stuck pig for a while after quitting. It was only gingivitis, but freaked me out royal at the time. Your body is undergoing massive changes without the nicotine. Some of it quite disturbing. Just know that others have been through the same and are here for you.

Exactly man. Quit that shit. I got tired of paying 5 bucks a day to increase my risk of heart disease in the future, hurt my teeth and gums, and as a bonnus - increase my risk of cancer.

A Quit Plan: Do you have one?

CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit.
After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco. SportDad 1/13/05

welcome man...yes lots of us, myself included had a scare or two...i still think today that my over 20 years of tobacco use - sometimes more regular than others - will get to me in the long run. that's the consequence of my addiction.

you're quit now. do everything to stay quit. the white lines should go away. do not bite anymore lumps, sores, etc. you may get a real nasty infections, mouths are full of germs, bacteria, etc. if the sores hurt use some ambesol so you can leave them alone and give them a chance to go away. if you are using a lot of seeds or jerky this can irrate your mouth due to the heavy salt content. if you are using gums and candies go sugarfree - not only is the sugar bad for your teeth but it is bad for the sores as well.

like everyone is saying, if you don't see marked improvement in your tongue, gums and mouth within two weeks do not wait to see a doctor or dentist - run to one of them.

Larry - my 2 cents:

Follow through with this decision to quit. My guess is over 95% of the guys and girls on this site have had a scare or two and vowed to quit. Once everything cleared up, we convinced ourselves we got all worked up over nothing and started dipping again.

Read the stories on this site! Everyone on here would love to go back to ourselves at 18 and slap that dip out of our mouths and quit. Don't convince yourself you still have time to quit when you are older. Do it today and mean it for life.
Thanks for the kind words. I am quit for life, it's just stupid and not worth it. If I am kucky enough to get off this time with a warning I will never be dumb enough again to put those 28 carcinogens in my jaw again

Larry,

My first of all since you quit your body is going through changes. Do to no nicatine that's a good thing. With these changes you will get canker sores, sore throat, my neck ached for about two weeks afer I quite. Sounds to me like your right on track with your quit.

As stated earlier if things persist beyond weeks, see a doctor or dentist. Also bite the bullet and tell your parents.

Thet will be disappointed that you used tabacco but proud that you as a man decided to quit and will support you.

Just my two cents Welcome aboard!
Ditto - My son is 18 and I would want to know and take him to the Dr. to be sure.
I am sure you will be fine, but 2 weeks is the key.

Larry- welcome. Everything I've read on here and other places have said to give it a little time (no more than 2 weeks) if it's still a problem get it checked out. But as Sam said....I'm not an authority either.

Pretty sure you cannot get cancer after such a short period of dipping, but I am not an authority on the subject. You made a great choice by quitting! Keep it up.

Oral Cancer?
« on: April 14, 2008, 07:57:00 PM »
Hey guys, I'm brand new. I'm 18, and just about to graduate high school. I've been dipping for a year and a half. My drug of choice was Kodiak Green. I've been quit for 9 days and I'm sure I'll never go back.

I went through a can in about a week back when I was dipping. Since I've found white lines on the underside of my tongue that dissappeared in a week without dip. My gums are a little paler and puffier and lower in the places where I dipped. It's harder for me to concentrate now. I had a lump I think was the start of a canker sore, at least I hope so, but I bit it off, and now it's kind of yellow-white on the inside of my lip. It's a little harder for me to swallow now, but i read online that sn infected canker sre can lead to slightly swollen lymph nodes like I have. I'm done with dipping for good. But can someone dipping a year and a half a can a week get ortal cancer? I hope it's just a warning.

Doesn't Kodiak contain a lot of fiberglass or something that can irritate and cause bumps? I can't see a dentist because I'd have to tell my folks, and I'm just not up to it now. Any insight is much appreciated now guys, it's kind of scary for me now. Thanks.
