Thanks so much Spacebaby for the help.

Day 1 and it feels good. I know that there are many obstacles to come, but just being here and committed to the quit I know is a minor breakthrough, hopefully the first of many.

Thanks Again.

It's the 6th post down. The one without the box around it.
Click on quote, copy and cut from lower box, past in upper box then add your user name and day 1 at the end of the list, but before the list of support guys.

I am ready to get started....

I actually threw my last tin away earlier today, well I guess technically yesterday (in eastern time zone). So I guess technically I can post roll now, right?

Ok, well.....you are going to get a lot of replies about putting the can down now. This site is hard core cold turkey. So if you cannot put it down right now, come back tomorrow and post.
People look at it here as drinking in an AA meeting.

Having said that, what I did is to make like I had the flu for the 1st 3 days, because that's what it felt like. I simply laid on the couch, ate candy, drank water non stop and watched tv. I had no one around me and just sweat it out.

I have 19 days now and it is so much better.

You will sleep a lot for about 4 days, then have insomnia for the next 4 or so days then you really start to feel the benefits.
The irritability will pass in the first week.
You will be very hungry so just eat a lot and just do whatever feels good for a couple of weeks.
I quit for a year once and the really hard part was a couple of months in when the novelty wore off. But by that time we know what the right thing is to do.
So, tomorrow when you put the tin down, come back and post roll call, unless your ready to chuck it tonight. I think that will be better, it will prove to yourself that you mean business.

Same story as most....tried quitting on my own many a time, all with obviously poor outcomes.

I have been tapering off consumption over the past couple of weeks (actually went a couple of days completely without, which is a first in I don't know how long).

Planning to make tomorrow Day 1. Just needing a little direction.

Ready to Quit and need some help!!
« on: October 09, 2012, 12:18:00 AM »
I picked up my first can while working a summer job in high school. When I left for college on a baseball scholarship I didn't have a chance. Nearly every player on the team chewed, myself among them. Always told myself that I would quit after I was done playing....here I am, nearly 6 years removed and dipping a half a can a day.

I told myself that I would quit before I got my first job/got married/bought my first house/ect. Nothing has changed much with my addiction.

Had another argument with my wife today....I know she loves me and just wants me to quit, I want to quit to.

I have so many good things going on in my life, but the constant weight of worry and anxiety surrounding this addiction makes it impossible to truly feel happy with what I have. I am constantly going to the doctor, when really it's just sickness with worry that I have done something to myself with this habit.

I am here today looking for help. I have stumbled on this site many a time, always saying I will be back. Well...here I am, looking for help.

Is there someone out there who can help me get started?
