Hey Big Sarge,
First of all, thanks for you service... second, awesome job on Day 40... third, and I'm sure you're getting support, but don't overlook the psychological wounds that need healing too. Not only is there the grind of combat but now the anguish of the wounds incurred. You are a member of a small group of warriors who have given more of themselves than almost every other American to defend our way of life and for that you get the added bonus of facing that burden daily for the rest of your life. But it can be faced with dignity. You will face depression, doubt, self loathing, and disgust if you haven't already. You will also experience moments of intense pride and unwaivering loyalty to your nation and your fellow wounded warriors. You will battle emotions of anger and rage against "those who don't get what you've been through", all of this will now be coupled with similar feelings resulting from being quit from tobacco.
My advice to you, from one combat vet (no purple heart though) to another combat vet (with a purple heart) is to not be scared to seek help when you need it.
May god bless you with a speedy and complete recovery.
