i started to dip at 21 too. stupid as shit, you and me.

you didn't love dipping... hell, you didn't even like dipping. you just didn't like not dipping. that's no where close to the same thing. don't romanticize dipping. it's a fucking disgusting addiction that kills those that use it. nothing you did was better because of dip. that awesome fishing trip you went on? would have been the same without dip. hanging out with the boys after a long work week, knocking back some cheap domestics on the back porch? just as much fun without dip. doing all that yard work in the hot summer sun? dip didn't help you get through it.

dip didn't ever do a goddamned thing for you, and don't forget it. the day you do is the day you cave.

Cowboy,

Using lack of sleep is one way the Nic bitch tries to regain a hold. Your body/mind is readjusting and it will take time. You are not going crazy. We have all traveled down this road you are on. Work through the sleep issues and relax.

It is important at this stage to pat yourself on the back ---You are Quit--Congrats! Each day you choose to quit, things improve--especially sleep. Putting a shit turd in your mouth won't make you sleep better---make up your mind--come HELL or HIGH WATER you will noy bow again to the nic bitch!

Once you hold to that resolve----the addiction starts to lose power

Peace

I just realized (did the math) and since I first started dipping - I've spent roughly $17,600 over the last 16 years. And here's the funny thing - I started dipping when I was 21 - and didn't even like it to start out with. I worked with a bunch of guys that liked Cope and so basically I forced myself to like it. How STUPID! I could have stuck the money in the bank and bought me a new motorcycle...and then some.

Now I'm in the process of teaching myself NOT to love it. And can't seem to sleep for SHIT. I think I'm going crazy. Man I have these insanely weird dreams - but the seem sooooo real. Last night took two sleeping pills, went to bed at 11:15 = woke at 4:32. NOW - I'm about to fall asleep at the keyboard.

It's totally normal. I know it sucks like hell, but it happens to us all. The first month that's all I EVER bitched about on roll is how I just wanted my sleep back. I started getting a normal night sleep after about a month. The first night I did, I was excited. Give it a few weeks, and it'll all be better.

Cowboy,

I am having the same issues at day 88, but it's improving.  This is normal.  For years and years we were putting this stimulant in our bodies and our bodies developed a natural sleep pattern despite the harm we were causing.  The body adjusts.  Now there is no drug so our bodies are forming new sleep patterns and apparently it takes time.

Here is what I am trying to do to reestablish my sleep patterns:

*I don't drink caffenine after 8 am (coffee in morning and that's it--I have cut back on coffee)
*I don't eat or drink a heavy supper and make sure supper is eaten 3 hours before bedtime
*excercise and workout at some point during the day for at least 30 to 40 minutes.
*I take the natural supplement melatonin before bed--5mg fast release.
* don't get out of bed at 4am when you wake up----keep staying in bed(even though you are awake) and rest until your time to get up.
*Have the same bedtime each night and wake up time (like I said even though you are wide awake--try to close your eyes and rest).

Hope this helps--it has helped me a little
Last night went to bed at 11:10....tried to stay up till I was really sleepy. Even had a single beer (that normally knocks me out). I wear contacts and I'm blind as a bat at night - anyways woke up - held the clock about an inch from my nose and realized it was on 1:34 - so like you said I just laid there....finally fell asleep and woke at 5:50 this morning....
Sleep will return. I promise . . . .
Just hang in there!!!

HCF- Stick with this program and use the tools=100% success rate. The people who fail here are the ones who lack the commitment to stick with it. Read all you can, learn all you can, apply all you can. Take a deep drink of the Kool aid. Exchange numbers with fellow quitters, especially those in your quit group, as you will be going through the same thing as them. Your strength building on their strength and their strength building on yours. Spend time here investing in your quit and the quit of others. Buckle down on the rough days, focus on getting through just one day. Know that you never have to repeat days 1,2, or 3 again.

Glad to be quit with you,

30

No offence - but I'm glad I'm not alone. I wake up sometimes and swear I'm going crazy....It's almost as if I've had a dip in....but theres NONE in the house....kinda like my mind is playing tricks on me....
You are certainly not alone Cowboy. I've followed about the same pattern as LLC. Made sure I was eating right and take in most of my calories earlier in the day. Exercise is a big part. My response to not sleeping is usually a manic reaction of over exercising to "put my self down" kind of thing.

Add sex to the list. That helps. If doesn't work, repeat until it does.

I just want to say thanks to everyone that has helped me thru the first couple of days of my quit. I PROMISE I would have caved if not for KTC. Matter of fact - every SINGLE time I've tried to quit....I've caved within the first 2 days....EVERYTIME. But not this time. I will NOT cave. Thanks to KTC....

cowboysfan,

There will come a time in the not too distant future where times like this you will remember what it was to be a slave. Life as you have known it is about to change for the better- radically!
