What Im concerned with is why you are waiting until the end of the month? Or begginging of next month? Or the month after that? After that? Everyone has played the deadline game, it doesnt work. Time to put on your big boy pants and undo what you have done to yourself. Toss the can and post up day one.
IT GETS EASIER!!

I'll tell you a secret, but be careful not to let your addiction catch on:

(using fake chew is the same thing as quitting cold turkey)

No matter how much shredded herbal crap you shove in your lip, as long as you stay completely clear of the nicotine, the physical withdrawals are GONE in about 3 days.

It will likely be three days of hell, but it's worth it. After that it's a just a matter of learning to handle stress, anxiety, celebrations, boredom, etc in different ways.

You can do this.
Skoal Monster -351 Still chew a can or two a week of Oregon mint herbal. I don't care if it's a crutch, its not nicotine . I'll deal with the oral fixation when I'm ready. I think that stuff can help alot.
"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

Greetings and welcome.  I can see you're a planner.  I can also see that you're looking to minimize the pain associated with this process.

Allow me to be the first to break the bad news:  QUITTING IS PAINFUL.
Did the same with alcohol 10 years ago this month. Just kept a glass of sweet tea in my hands at all times. Not to say that the desire for a drink doesn't jump in my head.

But then that is also why I would not consider day one until after the crutch. Looking at something like Mouse Pad for that in my face reminder while using the computer.
As long as your crutch is NICOTINE FREE, do not be ashamed to do what works. You are addicted to the nicotine, nothing else. Yes, you also have an oral habit, but that's not gonna kill you. I am 184 days quit and still use Smokey Mountain Chew from time to time, but my use of it has. subsided naturally over time. Yours will too if that is your plan. It's just too important to me to maintain my quit so although I use very little, I always have something handy to help pass a difficult crave.

This is going to be hard, but it is very possible, and will get better faster than you imagine.

I admire your resolve and toughness. You're gonna fit in great here. Welcome and thanks for your service to our country.

If you're nic-free, head over to the April 2010 quit group and post roll.

(I apologize, I am posting from a blackberry, or I would add a link on how to post roll here. Maybe another vet can help?)

Well now it is time for the dip to go away so, ordered up a crutch to get me past the first days without it. Once past that is when I will consider it my first day without the can. which is going to be more like the end of this month or the first of next month.
What kind of crutch?
Yeah. what kind of 'crutch' are you talking about?

'help' Greetings everyone,

Well I have decided to start taking steps to quit tobacco all together.

Started smoking at 13(now 37).

Was introduced to smokeless tobacco while in the military and not allowed to smoke while in the field on the perimeter duty. Once out of the service was only allowed to smoke in designated smoking areas which where always outside. So I got to were I was dipping more and more. Finally just switched over to dipping only as that got rid of the cigarette smell and allowed more freedom of being inside.

Well now it is time for the dip to go away so, ordered up a crutch to get me past the first days without it. Once past that is when I will consider it my first day without the can. which is going to be more like the end of this month or the first of next month.

Some areas where I notice that I almost constantly have a dip in and could use some suggestions are:
At work
While on the computer at home
While driving
Just sitting around watching TV

I am asking before I actually quit so, that I will start the preparations now and not trying to make a bunch of changes all at once.

It's not about avoiding the pain of quitting. It's about enduring the pain until it subsides. That's what we're here for.

Also...about your trigger points...work, computer, driving, TV. Yup. Those and then some. For many of us, simply being awake was a trigger. You'll find that you can do purty much everything without dip, just fine, thankyouverymuch.

So, yea...gather up your fake dip, gum, seeds, and gather up your mansack and strap it in tight. You're in for the bumpiest ride of your life. But it'll be worth it, and here you'll find so much help and support it'll blow your mind.
