Thanks, all of you, for the support, for quitting with me today. This place is awesome.

I don't have any illusions that this will be anything but one of the hardest things I've done. While I wasn't to twitchy earlier, I have developed a nasty headache, which I know is part of the deal for the next few days. But I'm still quit now for 12 hours or so, and when I wake in the morning I'll have "1Day" and that's a very good thing.

Question: What is sort of the general opinion around here about the nic-free or fake chews? A couple of you guys kinda seem opposed except as a last resort. I was cruising the net last week looking at options for the stuff when I first found this place, due to all the reviews in the blog. Anyway, just curious. I am using some Jake's and it seems to be helping a bit.

Thanks for being here.
If it keeps you from caving, use it. I think there's a general consensus that it is OK.

Make sure it has no tobacco and no nicotine.

It's still not great for your teeth, and eventually you'll want to kick your oral fixation . . but if it helps you quit then go for it.

I ordered a sampler pack before posting my Day 1 here and have sampled the Smokey Mnt Straight, Classic, and Wintergreen. The Wintergreen is LOUD and probably the best for killing that oral fixation.

ALSO: Don't cut yourself short. TODAY is your "Day 1." Tomorrow will be Day 2.

Hi all. 48 years old, and have been a captive of the can since I was 14. Like probably all or nearly all of you, I can't count the number of half-full cans (Cope long cut for me) that I've flushed, only to rush out later or the next day and get a new can. But then I found this place and started reading some of the blog entries. I made a plan, ordered a care package from Jake's, and decided to join up and cast my lot with y'all.

Today is Day 1.
Congratulations! Its a good day to quit!
I'll be 49 in May, like you I've been hooked over 30 years. This is the place to get the help and advice you need. I've barley got a week under my belt. I'm no expert, but I can tell you I have that week because of KTC and the people here. We all have a common goal, get quit, stay quit.
I quit with you today Sir!

Hi Jeff, and welcome to the best decision you can make. You can check out this page to see that you are looking at coming up in the next few days and weeks.

How we quit here is very simple. You will go to the your quit group, which is April 2015 and you will post up a Day 1 in the New Quitters section. Details on how to do this can also be found in the Welcome Center. Your post, which you should do as soon as you get out of bed for the day, is your promise not to use nicotine in any form. You are about to go through the worst of the physical symptoms. I encourage you to go post roll and quit with us, and you will get support like you've never known.

Drink lots of water, don't worry about staying away from food, gum, seeds, atomic fireballs, or even fake dip. Eat everything in site if it keeps you Quit.

Quit on.

Thanks man. I got the PM and appreciate the support. Ya, it is bringing the suck, but I'm not grinding my teeth, banging my head against the wall, or balled up on the floor in the fetal position, yet. Besides, as you said - I made a promise and I owe you guys today. I'll honor that promise. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
Everyone has a different experience. I had about a can a day of Cope LC for probably 10 years . . more or less. At some point I graduated to that from Lancaster.

My point is, you've used much longer. You may walk away from it with relative ease, though it seems there are not many who do that.

I think I've had it easier than some. I was physically ill the first day. Stomach, fever, then sweats, horrible sleeping. Day 2 on was just a matter of keeping the craves at bay which seem to lessen every day.

I'm not sure I've experienced the "fog" that seems so common . . at least nothing like what some folks describe.

Water works. Gum works. Atomic fireballs work. Sunflower seeds work. THIS SITE WORKS. And, if you must, Smokey Mtn Wintergreen works (a little TOO well IMO) to keep your mouth occupied.

Good luck. Brace yourself for it to be bad--and if it isn't, then bonus for you.

It's going to SUUUCK. Tobacco has had a hold of your mind, body, and spirit for 34 years and will not go away without a fight.

Glad to have you on board. I already PMed you my digits. Text or call . .

If you can make it through one hour you can make it to the 2nd. And if you can make it to the 2nd, you can make it to the 3rd.

Quit a little each day, one crave at a time--that's the best advice I got and am passing it on to you.

Before you know it it'll be a full day, then you'll know you have it in you.

7 days here. That first day was the worst. Everybody has a different experience. But I'm pretty sure the NIC/tobacco devil is going to do her damnedest to keep you today.

Oh, and KTC doesn't frig around with cavers. So, just don't. You've promised today. You owe us today.
