Fuck; Day 9 today and I was in a client meeting just totally spaced out.  First 'fog' episode.  It sucked.  However, the good news is my first thought was not 'I need a dip'.  It was 'that what those guys on KTC were talking about... 'Thanks for the mental prep.  I had a diet soda instead.  It was delightful.
I know exactly how you feel man, you and I are on the same days. Nice victory today. Keep it up bud. Glad to be quit with you!

Yet when we quit and start using fake dip, we begin analyzing the benefits and detriments of a non-carcinogenic ground up plant with sugar flavoring. I did the same thing. Just funny how that works....

The moral of the story is to keep shoving that fake dip in your pie hole if it keeps you quit.
Right? It's like eating broccoli or something. But I'm still 'dipping'; I'm just 'dipping' some ground up non tobacco substitute. Which won't cause cancer.

Anyway, that one fake dip a day is making this really easy. I'm really happy. Thanks everyone! I highly doubt that I would feel this good without this forum.
My experience with fake dip was like a substitute love affair. It didn't fill all my needs or wants but it wasn't bad. The first few weeks of my separation from Copenhagen I couldn't get enough, tried every alternative. Finally I settled on a satisfying regular (smokey mountain wintergreen). I dipped the shit out of it. I indulged in it every bit as much as I had my long time lover. By about day 80 or 90 I started getting bored with it and started missing days. Then one day came that I realized I hadn't visited my substitute for over a week, then a month and I almost forgot where I left it (that would have never happened with the real thing, if it did I was frantic). I had a drawer with quite an assortment, one day I cleaned house and threw all but 1 can of smokey mountain out. I haven't checked for months now if its still there. I'm sure it is if I were to crave but I haven't, at least not bad enough to dig it out of hiding.
Adam, as long as you post roll and keep your promise the quit tools become sharper and you become more efficient in there use. I like comparing the tools to a 'straight razor'. Soon you will have learned to use that strop to maintain the sharpest edge and you will soon become proficient at getting the smoothest shave with no nicks! Quit on.

I bought some Hooch herbal fake dip because of the amount of sunflower seeds I was eating; the salt was too much and the extra calories aren't helping. Part of me feels that fake dip is cheating, but then I think: I could legitimately do this fake stuff FOREVER and not get cancer and die.

And then I realize that Day 5 isn't the day that the mental cravings and triggers stop. And it's OK to do fake dip, because for me it's working just fine. And in time, the oral fixation will stop. In the meantime, I'm putting broccoli or whatever this shit is made from in my mouth.

Still hiding it, of course, from my wife. She thinks I quit years ago. That sucks, but one thing at a time. I'm laughing at myself for hiding fake dip from my wife, and I'm embarassed that I have hid something from my wife for this long. What a dick.

I find myself coming to this forum several times a day; this is my favorite section because everyone posting here is in the same early stages, and it's all so familiar.

The best thing I read so far was Diesel's story in Aaron's thread about the windshield washer bottle. Oh man, thanks for that!

Thanks for looking out for me guys, definitely. My big hanging out drinking day is Wednesday, and it went awesome. My friends will not offer me dip, and if I were to break down and ask for one, they will make me feel like shit (rightfully so.)

There will be not be a second Day 1. I am already too proud of myself.

Read what you posted, Adam. I bet those same words came out of your mouth regarding dip at some point or another, too.

Controlling desires, habits, impulses....addictions....is tough. made tougher when you have things changing the way your mind works.

You have a lot of people here giving you advice. Listen to what they are saying. Hear them and not the whispers from the nic and alcohol spirits....
Blah...Blah...Blah...You keep TALKIN....I'll keep QUITTIN

I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to support YOUR quit.

Day 4.  Had the biggest test last night - Wednesday is hanging with the guys.  Drinking, no dip, some sunflower seeds - no problem.  I think my firm decision to quit is stronger than this.  I'm pretty happy!
Thats what I like to hear!! It is good to take on things that are part of your normal day to day but heed our advice. Drinking will fuck up a solid quit faster than anything! I drank on day 2 and day 10 and they were the biggest mistakes I made. Next day was like I was back in the suck!! I didnt feel safe having a few beers till after day 25. Especially if is with a group of your boys that all chew etc etc......Drinky with caution!!

I quit with you bro!!

J
Hahahaha thanks guys, but giving up drinking at the same time as giving up Kodiak? Not happening. It's OK though - not a problem. I have never felt this strongly - the idea of slipping back into an old habit with such horrible consequences makes me ill. It is like I have been hypnotized somehow... seriously!

I have made my decision and it's great. Day 5.
Adam,

It's just my two cents, but I think you are playing with fire. Quitting is not easy and everybody knows that. For the majority of the people here, it takes a total focus to stay quit and a lot of people caved because of drinking early in their quit. In my mind, it's a small sacrifice to reinforce your quit. If you are going to keep drinking early in your quit, make sure you have a plan for when that nic bitch comes calling. I can guarantee that she will come knocking on your door at your weakest point of the night.

I didn't take the back off on the booze advice early in my quit. About 4.5 years later I finally quit replacing one fix with another. I regret that decision. Just something for you to consider.

If you post roll, dip is off the table for the day no matter what....period, the end.

I won't be the guy to lecture about quitting and drinking but I will bust your ass if you post a day 1 after a night of dudes and wine coolers.

Know what I mean?
