Stop kidding yourself. I said the same thing too and it's bullshit. If you are not addicted to nicotine then why would you put cancer causing crap in your mouth. I'm on day 8 quit and still a little bit irritable, so I am sorry if I am coming across as a dick. KC Bronco who is knocking on the HOF door recommended Dill Pickle sunflower seeds. I gave it a shot and it's not bad. They seem a little less salty and don't tear up my mouth as much as regular seeds. You will be ready to kick this once you own up to the fact that you are addicted to nicotine. I fooled myself for years saying I wasn't addicted so I just kept dipping away. That makes no sense at all. You can quit this! As for the oral fixation, just jam something nicotine free in your mouth

Coffee, gum, and seeds. To each their own however.

But I have to piggyback off 9reasons and Radman as well. Don't kid yourself, you ARE addicted. If you weren't, why would you even have joined this site? The first 3 days were some of the easiest craves looking back on my 213 days. In their own wierd way they were fun and exciting. Plus you had your month's full compliment of quitters to go through the crucible with. Wait until you're 80 days in without a hint of physical symptoms and it's you versus your own mind. All while your classmates are falling by the wayside. That's what you need to come to grips with.
Mr. Skoal, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Gum, seeds fake chew, whatever you need to keep the real shit out of your mouth.
Smokey Mountain is my crutch, but nothing is going to "fix" you but determination, time.

Do it one day at a time.

I've never been addicted to the nicotine....
This is not true. If you've consumed it, you're addicted. Different people suffer different symtoms, but it's addiction nonetheless. Some of my worst times were probably 50+ days into my quit. Just cause you don't get shakes, doesn't change anything. It will come. You gotta be ready for the withdrawals. If you kid yourself into thinking you're different than everybody else, you're setting yourself up for failure. Don't fall in that trap.

The biggest hurdle in this battle is being honest with yourself. Well, at least it was for me.

To answer your question: I chewed seeds and jerky. More seeds than I could carry, probably. Piles of them. Yeah, my gums hurt, but I wasn't giving myself cancer.

For me, fake snuff wasn't an option. I wanted to get completely away from everything related to tobacco. But, whatever works for you. I know some guys that saved their quits with fake.

So, new to the site and on day 1 only.  My question relates to oral fixation of chewing tobacco.  I've never been addicted to the nicotine....I don't get shakes or irritable or anything when I'm off nicotine for days at a time.  My problem is, I need the oral fixation...something in my lip.  What products have you tried and what works best?  I've tried the jerky which isn't bad...it's a little rough on the gums with the salt, same with seeds.  The Mint Snuff non-tobacco product is alright but it's a fairly sticky product.  So...anyway, just seeing what people have to say regarding their replacement method and what worked best for them.
You are a nicotine addict. You are experiencing withdrawal.

Withdrawal symptoms will vary from person to person. One significant withdrawal symptom - the most important one, because it's what keeps you hooked - is called "craving", or if you prefer, "oral fixation". If you were not a nicotine addict, it wouldn't matter what you put in your mouth.

If you are in denial about the basic fact of your addiction, you cannot beat your addiction.

Well this may be a tad crude, but since I liked fine cut I just toss spent coffee grounds into a mint tin (like normal mints not mint flavored dip). Kind of messy on the removal, but been keeping me on the level. I'm with ya there man, nicotine is only a very small part of the battle. So much is purely mind games. Not much of a gum user, and seeds tear my mouth up worse than dipping ever did. It's all about finding something to put in that lip pouch. Also planted a bed of mint plants and will be shredding those once they start producing. Ironically that's what I did as a kid when I wanted to imitate my role models who just so happened to dip. Me as a ten year old walking around with a huge lipper of mint leaves, seems as though I was screwed from the get-go.

I am using Winter Ice gum by Wrigley's. 2-3 pieces chewed and stuffed in the back right corner of my jaw..where I used to keep my dip. May want to try a sugarless gum.

My 2 cents. I'm only on day 2 but it's helping with the oral fixation plus it has the mint flavor like the crap I used to use.
