* A late HOF speech
« on: December 31, 2019, 07:57:17 PM »
It’s a little late but I’m now at 140 days with out dipping. It feels good to know that I have the support of the people on the site and people actually came out to help me. It is on my list of things to do, be more involved on the site.

Now to the story about me. I grew up in Western Washington. I started chewing in high school when I was 17, I believe. And now I’m into my thirties. I was hooked on chew from the beginning. The feeling you get when you first start. Then I found myself always with a dip in my lip. There was a few times where I tried to quit, but always found myself going back. Think the longest I went was about a week. Then one day I woke up and decided once I had the last pinch of Copenhagen in my can, that would be it for a few days. Was a Saturday morning I believe. My wife always gets on me when I go buy chew so I decided I would wait till Monday when she went back to work. That is when I found this site. I started by reading the time line on how you would feel for 100 days. I prolly read that 200 times over the first few days. Then decided to quit chewing. I joined the site and became part of the community of people beating nicotine. I just moped around the house for 3-5 days with my mind in a total fog, and with my mouth hanging open probably. But checking in every day and reading about every ones days and struggles actually helped me to get through the first couple weeks. Then hearing how people are feeling better after the initial quit really made me determined to get through this. And catching some flack for not checking in first thing in the morning. Was a huge kick in the ass to keep me on track. It is a good community that is here for every one and doesn’t shy away from helping each other.

There are a few people I would like to thank for helping out. First person is Chris2Alaska. One of the people that I exchanged numbers with and actually met up with in Alaska when I flew up there. Was nice meeting some one from the site and knowing that the people quitting are real humans.
Brad is another person I would like to thank. For sending me a text when I would forget to post. And lastly would be my wife for putting up with me the first couple weeks. Her patience was very much appreciated with struggles of the first couple weeks.

The late posts usually only happen when I fly red eye flights or when it’s a cluster of a day at work. So sorry about the late ones. I know it seems I’m constantly on that list.

But thanks to every one that is involved with the site and I hope to contribute more in the future. And if I ever run into any one of you in the airport and you are on my flight feel free to say hi.  I’ll let you sit in my pilot seat and see what’s it’s like to be locked up in the front of a plane.
