decided today was the day. I've had a "sore" in my mouth for a week or so. no color, no pain, it was just there. I was picking at it tonight while enjoying the new movie Ted two(a must see) of course I had a nice redseal in. after I picked at it it became irritated and swollen. scared the shit out of me. I decided it's time. boy did I pick a hell of a time too, as I have a three hour drive tomorrow morning followed by umpiring ten baseball games in two days. I'm going to go to the dentist to get this checked out when I can find a dentist. I'm hoping it's nothing more than a little ulcer or mark from biting myself that God is scaring me with. I'd like to get this right the first time as I've never actually tried to quit before, only cut back. was at a can of redseal a day for about 2 years before that I dipped regularly for about 5 years now. it's time before it gets really bad. of course, looking on here I feel like somewhat of a pussy due to what yall have gone through but I'm hoping you can help a young, freaked out, 21 year old college football player out. I mean, it's 345am. I need to leave this house to drive 180 miles in 4 hours. if that doesn't say freaked out i don't know what does.

I'm going to pick up a can of herbal snuff tomorrow along with sunflower seeds and a shit ton of gum, does that sound like a starters package?

thank you guys

Hey I posted a few days ago saying how I decided to quit using nicotine patches. Well I used a patch on Monday but that was it I haven't used a patch or had a dip since Tuesday. Two things I noticed. One I'm eating more. Two I'm drinking coffee like crazy. Is this normal for quitting chew?
Eating more is definitely a common "side effect".

Coffee is too, but be careful. Nicotine acts as a natural "blocker" for caffeine so if you're drinking the same amount or more than you were, it's going to feel like a SHIT TON more to your body.

Funny thing for me is it's only day 9 but i never had the huge withdrawls or symptoms other say are bad...I really didn't have the headaches, I could sleep fine....better actually. I don't snore....I have NO IDEA why tobacco made me snore anyway. Only issue I have is i'm eating every Efn thing in sight.

I'd rather gain 10 lbs though than dip. It's easier to lose 20 lbs than it is to quit chewing. 20 years I chewed like a freak, in the shower, in the truck, in bed...it didn't matter what I was. I even got a BJ in college with a Dip in my mouth. THat was a great conversation piece, still is, but that's over with. Dip ran my life and 9 days into this i feel great. I feel like i have my life back. Even though I have the urge's and feel like something is missing, I want to live.

I actually wondered how it would be fishing or hunting wo a dip. Well i've fished 3 days now wo it. Not a big deal. I have been chewing the hell out of Sunflower seeds. THey are a great help, problem is they make me chit like a goose.

And I'm WAY more productive at work. I'm not taking 3 dip breaks a day at 20 minutes apiece....maybe more.

Just found this site.

Starting chewing as a junior in college last year. Played college ball. Figured it would be a college only thing and then after a year I'd be over it and just lay it down. That it would be just a phase. That I was above addiction. Here I am over a month removed from college ball and I still found myself pulling into gas stations even when I said I wouldn't buying the nic-bitch.

I ended up two nights ago getting wasted with a buddy at a party and spent the rest of the next day hungover so I didn't buy dip. Yesterday I was still feeling like garbage and didn't buy any dip. Early this morning now I am realizing that I don't feel like crap because I'm still hungover two days later (that would be stupid), I feel like crap because I am going through withdrawal symptoms. I haven't slept at all. I've needed to nap during the day but can't, at night the last two nights I've just laid awake trying to sleep but not being able to. My stomach has felt like crap so I haven't eaten. It's only been two now three days. I've wanted to quit, I found my window to quit it, I'm going for it. It's just, I don't know how long I can live like this. Man has to sleep and eat you know!

Hello, I have been chewing for the last 5 years. Usually Cope hagen natural extra long cut. I was reading on this site when I made up my mind to quit. I spoke with my doctor for help on 6/18. He suggested I use a nicotine patch for a bit to help me step down and off. Today was my last pinch of my last can and tomorrow 6/22 I will no longer use chewing tobacco. Instead I will try using a patch. I wanted to thank everybody who posted and helped me make up my mind to finally quit.

Don't really know where to post. I am 24 and I've been chewing since age 14. Ive been contemplating quitting for about a year now. But today is the day, idk what hit me but I woke up this morning and said fuck chew. I dont what to lose that attitude so im turning to this Site because you all have or are going through the same thing. I just hope the damage is already done. I have a lot of triggers that make me chew, working golf course maintenance, video games, and stress or if it's something shitty I always just throw a digger in. If anyone can give original tips on not chewing while gaming or when working outdoors around other chewers. Thanks guys!
HERE is a great place to start and head over to the WELCOME CENTER

I chewed 1 or more cans a day of cope long cut for 13 years. Day 5 of my quit. Did anyone else get migraines and neck pain? I know that if I have one nicotine gum a day, it helps with the migraines. Any suggestions guys?
I know that you can't quit a drug with that same drug.

Pull off the bandaid, accept the withdrawals (they're remporary), and get along in the quit.

You can do this man.

Definitely, I ran into the same symptoms. I had to rely on Excedrine Migraine and Coke for a few days. But after about three days the headaches went away for me.
I had the same thing! Headaches, soreness. Use tylonol or aleve! Not nicotine, you can do it
You're going to have to get that shit out of your system if you want to get rid of the head aches and stiffness. I had those symptoms like crazy the first week...don't worry, they go away. I used exercise to deal with them, and tylenol.

Today is day 5. I've quit in the past, but it's never been this hard. I'm an old wintergreen dipper (17 years). My wife stocked me up on wintergreen lifesavers, sun flower seeds, and some smokey mountain herbal snuff. The fake dip helps during times of ritual dipping (shower, after meals, etc.) I hope all you guys/gals are fighting the good fight! It's hard, but so damn worth it. I will overcome this weakness. Stay strong.
Sounds like you have an awesome wife and everything set up to deal with the oral fixation. Now it's time to read HOF speeches like mad man, exercise, and beat this disgusting habit. I'll tell you right it's going to be a fight...but it's worth every second of it. Glad to be quit with you EDD, hit me up if you want my digits.
