I haven't seen this mentioned around here. Maybe I haven't been here long enough. Anyway, I have a lot of background in medicine, both work experience and education. I've seen chantix and bupropion used for cessation.

What is the general consensus of this forum when these two drugs are used for cessation? In particular chantix. I am quite familiar with varenicline (chantix), though I have never taken it. I'm going to withhold some of my knowledge because I feel I may sway the conversation one way or another.
I can't speak from experience as I didn't use either during my quit.

I know there are several here who used Chantix with some success.

Candily, I've always sort of looked down on them based on the limited research I've done and some of the horror stories I've read. That said, I spose a good candid chat with a doctor would be in order prior to using either.

One of the many ways I tried that didn't work. I didn't like the way I felt a few days in, so stopped the pills. Truth be told, as I have done more research, it seems the Grizzly may have been safer than the Chantix.
I was on it for the first 30 days. I hated it. I had horrible, HORRIBLE nighmares. My wife found me sleepwalking all the time.

I can't attest as to how it helped with the withdrawl symptoms, either.  I think it may have actually prolonged my Fog, but I don't know.

Here's what I do know. Eventually, everyone has to let go and just Quit. I used fake dip for the first couple hundred days, but eventually, you gotta fly solo. I encourage you to get to that point best you can. Don't worry about making it happen sooner. Just make it happen the best you can.

Hope that helps.
I put this blog post together years ago - http://blog.killthecan.org/2009/07/the- ... and-zyban/

Would love for you guys to add your comments / experiences there too if possible.

Well shit maybe that's what I have. Generally painless bumps in inner cheek area? Sorta/kinda white looking tongue?

Just to get through the night, I'm just going to go ahead and assume that's what this is. Thanks man. http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/s

No problem. Yeah the mouth sores and white tongue have been the worst part of this whole thing. Its been two weeks and I'm still waiting for it to pass.

At what point in your quit should you stop using fake chew to satisfy your cravings? Anytime I have a craving I throw in a fake dip also I find myself using it more in more just like I would with real dip. Is there a point in your quit you should give it up or is this something you need to decide when you feel you can continue your quit without it?
This is a personal preference. Some feel that using the fake stuff is

A) too close to the real thing and B) is keeping your habit alive.

For me personally, I say use it... use it liberally... and use it for as long as it takes. Even if that's forever. I've often said, and still believe to this day, that I'd rather chew a can/day of the fake stuff than ever have another dip of Kodiak.

That said, for me, I chewed about a can / day for a good 220+ days or so and then one day just... didn't reach for it any more.

It's a tool. Like any other tool in your quit arsenal. Use it.

My two cents.

I noticed it in my mouth as well... thought the same thing. Apparently it's "normal" for someone who shoved nasty processed materials in our mouths for upwards of 20 years before finally waking up.
I have gotten oral thrush before but it was only after I quit dip for a period of time and went back. Which would be white bumps in your mouth and sometimes throat. I developed red dots in my mouth after 5 or 6 days of quitting. They lasted for about a week on day 23 and I no longer have them.

Day 5: I have Oral Thrush. Did any one else develop this as a side effect? Also is there anyway to fix the focus issue? I've been sitting at my desk at work and zoning out for what feels like hours.
Well shit maybe that's what I have. Generally painless bumps in inner cheek area? Sorta/kinda white looking tongue?

Just to get through the night, I'm just going to go ahead and assume that's what this is. Thanks man. http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/s[/url]

Hello everyone... first post, on day 3 right now. 10 years of Kodiak for me, with a few 'quit' spells worked in. Completely miserable at the moment. Physical symptoms and anxiety. So here's my question: did any of you, soon after quitting, notice bumps in the cheek/lip where you didn't notice them before? I've read articles associated with this website that mention increased prevalence of "sores" in the days/weeks after quitting. But that's not what this is... its a painless bump, not too big, and slightly movable. I also notice other areas of painless "bumpiness" on the inside of my lips, even in areas where I never dipped (upper left).

So, naturally, I think I have cancer. But I also realize that I'm paranoid and anxious due to nicotine withdrawal. I have an appt. with the ENT in April, but in the meantime, I'd feel a hell of a lot better if others who have shared this experience could reassure me that this is nothing to worry about, at least for the moment.

On a certain level I believe I deserve this anxiety, even if there's nothing to worry about. Isn't it funny how the guilt, the awareness of what we were doing to ourselves, doesn't truly hit until after quitting, which of course makes it even harder to stick with the quit? Ugh. Never again.

Anyway, thanks everyone. So glad I found this place.

Howdy folks 'winker'

Name's Geddy. I officially quit on January 10th of this year after 10 years of dipping -- haven't felt this good in a long time! Just came here to introduce myself. I'm not here looking for support on quitting or staying clean, but to provide any support where it could be used. My first and only attempt at quitting went extremely well so I figured that if there was a place to put this information, it's on these forums. 'archer'

If anyone is looking for advice (not that there isn't already a wealth of it here!), some support, or motivation, hit me up.

Take care!
