WildIrish,
Thank you for your good wishes.
You were much smarter about dental care than I. Cleanings always made me climb the walls. I also did not want to hear the scolding about using snuff. I found it easier to just chicken out.
I have as a result ruined my gums and bone. Implants are next unless I want to eat soup the rest of my life.

I am seasoned alright. Mid 60's and counting.
I have not tried jerky chew. Is it real salty?

Spuds:
I cannot foresee the day that I will look forward to going to the dentist. Although I have to admit it went far better than expected. The clean bill of health was great. The hot hygienist with the great hands was also a treat ( I am old but not dead yet).
Strange story- when I had my heart attack, the cardiologist that saw me in the ER asked if I smoked. I told him I used snuff. His response, "so does my partner". I cannot say I used that for justification to continue using for another year and a half, it certainly was not motivation to stop. Just crazy!

Day 46 has turned out quite remarkable. The dentist office called this morning saying they had a canceltion would I be able to come in today instead of tomorrow. Thinking I might as well get it over with I told them I would be there.
The good news is the dentist saw nothing he was suspicious of concerning cancer. What a huge relief! Thank you God in heaven!
The bad news is I will probably need a full mouth of implants with in the next 12 months. A painful, expensive price to pay for neglect and addiction, but it could be worse.
Great news and after a while having the dentist looking in your mouth will be a good comfort.
ODAAT!

I have zero temptation to use anything with nicotine in it at this point. The self disgust toward what I have done to myself over the years has remained strong and vivid for 46 days.
On the other hand, I have been using Smokey Mountain straight as a crutch. I really like it and I suspect it is my new addiction.
Use whatever it takes to keep that shit out of your mouth. I used SM pretty heavily in my first 100-150 days. I am at 334 today and I do have two cans sitting on my dresser that I have no clue when I bought. I do chew gum from time to time and I like atomic fireballs but I am pretty much dome with SM.
Welcome Grandpa. I take it that you are "seasoned" like myself. I used for 32+ years, and am sitting here at day 836 quit as fuck ... and proud of it. Embrace that self-disgust, as it will take you to freedom, adding a finality to this quit. That's what you need.

As far as fake ... I used Jerky Chew for 430 days. It was and remains a fantastic tool, especially in the beginning. I held onto it like a 5 year-old holding a pacifier ... more out of habit than anything. Now I'm free from that too. That being said, I will always recommend fake when times get hard in the beginning of a quit.

Keep yourself engaged on this site, and keep kicking ass. Every day is another victory. Enjoy your freedom, tell EVERYONE that you are quit. Make yourself accountable to every last soul you know. Just more tools in the shed. Congrats on taking control back in your life!
My personality is who I am, my attitude depends on who you are.

I have been done with snuff for 45 days as of today. After 33 years of using from the time I awoke until time to sleep. I was addicted to Skoal Straight and most of those 33 years I just swallowed so I was not burdened with finding and hiding a spit cup.
A can lasted between 5 and 6 days, but unless I was eating, I had a pinch between cheek and gum all day. I did my best to keep it in the closet, but was caught on occasion. From the stories I have read on this site, you all know what I am talking about.
I finally got the backbone to make a dentist appointment for this coming Wednesday. I am terrified the dentist will discover cancer. After 33 years of using it will be only by the grace of God that I am clean and healthy. If I get past the cancer test I will need extensive dental work on loose teeth and messed up gums. This will be my 1st trip to the dentist since 1988, so you can imagine the mess I have.
I deeply appreciate what I have learned from this site that has helped me quit.
I would also appreciate that those members who pray, pray for a clean bill of health at my dental torture.
Quitting again today with everyone here.
Welcome to KTC Grandpa. Like you, I dipped for 38 years or so, whenever I was awake. A can lasted me about 5 days, so we are about the same in that regard. Oh, and I didn't spit either. Tough guys, we are, haha.

Unlike you, I went to the dentist twice a year to get my teeth cleaned. I was told to floss once a day if I wanted to keep my natural teeth past 40. I did, and I have. It's never too late to start the habit of flossing, even if you only have one tooth left. Save it.

I wish you the best news at your dentist appointment. The fact that I dipped in a similar manner to you, and don't have cancer, should ease your mind a bit. Keep in mind, no matter what you find at the dentist, that you are now quit, and should stay that way. You've done a great job posting roll early and every day since you been here. Reach out to others in your group. Get their phone numbers and shoot them a text from time to time. It may sound strange, but texting others really helps you stay quit.
^^ solid advice there. Get active and post roll and when you think of chewing remember the fear of going to dentist.
Your body will heal each day forward, post roll, never go back!

I wanted to preserve my intro on the new site before the old one goes down in flames so I was able to post a link. Regardless, software or no software, I am still quit and intend to be tomorrow as well.
