The poison sucks. I hate it. I hated it this morning, I hated it at noon, I hated it at supper and I hate it tonight. I enjoy hating it so much I'm going to wake up tomorrow and start over hating it. I quit with anyone that wants to hate it with me.

82 hours so I guess the nicotine is officially gone from my system. Now the mental challenge. Trying to avoid triggers.
How do you avoid triggers when you've dipped for 2/3 of your life??? I've been feeling pretty good but want to be ready for the hits when they come.

*Just worked hard in the yard for 6 hours. My old "pal' wasn't with me. Strange feeling.
*Tested myself last night with some very good bourbon. Delish and I passed the test with flying colors (I know Im going to get slapped upside the head with a biggie soon.).

What Im saying is when you've dipped as long as I DID everything about life is a potential trigger.

Im surprised that the fake dip is holding me together. Smokey MT. is a good crutch. They all taste like ass, however, for the burn factor alone, it's doing the trick.

All you quitters rock. Can you imagine how far we've come in a few days?? Without all of you I would most surely have caved. I know Im going to make it now that the nic is out and I have the Sultans watching my back. We will win the game of mental gymnastics with each others help. Stay strong, stay the course. When you're feeling like shit reach out.

Much respect,

Joe C

Proud to be quit with you Joe C....you and the rest of the Sultans.

Thanks for the tip about the Bacc-Off and cayenne pepper.

You and me are gonna beat this friggin addiction one damn day at a time.

I'm proud to quit with you today and every damn day that follows.

I mentioned that all fakes tasted like ass. Maybe so but they are tweakable.

Made a discovery today. I grabbed a can of Bacc-Off Straight. Popped it open and noticed the cut was about as close to Cope as Ive seen. Tasted pretty good...tea versus corn silks in Smokey Mt. What it was lacking was the burn I need. I dumped the can on a paper plate, gave it a good dusting with cayenne pepper and put it back in the can.
That is about as good as its gonna get. A flavor as close as you'll get and the burn chaser.

Ready,

I am so fired up to quit nothing is going to stop me.
I can't wait until I have that first day where I don't think bout it once.

You're correct, "Freedom is not over rated". The shackles are loosening.

Thank you for your support. Have a good week.

Nice job passing the 3 day mark Joe. There are some triggers you simply can't avoid. As you said, for most of us, just being awake was a trigger. What you can do is prepare yourself. Have your SM can handy at all times, make sure you have some phone numbers so you can text as soon as you feel a bad crave coming on. Visiting the site, reading the stories and words of wisdom, or hopping on the live chat are big crave killers as well.

You will see this preached all over the site, but you should put down the booze for a while. It's the #1 killer of quits, and although you "got through" drinking once, take the advice of those who came before you, and don't put your quit in jeopardy.

Stay strong bud, you're killin it.

From the moment you pulled the trigger and dumped that last can through the end of what I've read thus far on your thread, you sir have your head in the right mindset. My concern for you, however, is that you claim to have stopped dipping a number of times before, and one of those times, you stopped for over a year. What is your plan this time around? How are you going to be quit and remain quit? For starters, get that name on roll and begin to create that accountability network that Grizzly was referring to. If you're a man of your word and have a sound conscious, then the thought of stabbing your quit brothers in the back by caving to nicotine should a nice deterrent. Just start thinking about these types of questions to further your resolve. You're certainly going down the right path and I'll be glad to walk that path with you.
The difference is I was 22 years old then (invincible). Im 47 now and have 3 kids. I haven't tried to quit in 10 years. The day I go a day without thinking about dipping will be a new holiday on my calendar. Its going to happen. I just went through my first 24 hours pretty well. I expected to wake up with a headache and a massive Cope jones. Nope. Im baffled. Im sure its coming but for now Im solid. I think that ones resolve to quit has direct impact on the pain of their quit. Am I making sense? I wanted to quit badly. I planned to quit when I reached that mental point where I was ready. It was a process that took 4 or 5 months to get ready for. I tried talking some buddies into quitting with no luck. What kicked me over the edge was finding KTC. I didn't want to go through this alone.
Roll Call first Josey. Then you can gab with your buddies all you want. 1st post is Roll CAll. 1st thought when you wake up is...Roll Call. Don't waste a lot of time between the thought and the post. Take the option of a cave off the table early.

LOOT gets the point of pain/resolve. LOOT thinks you are kidding yourself :) If you think your addiction is gonna take it easy on you because it realizes you are serious this time, yous in for a serious ass whoopin. This fucker is gonna pull out all the stops just for that very reason. She will let you cruise. She will lull you to sleep while stroking your shaft. Then, she is gonna punch you right between the fucking eyes and do it again, and again, and again.

The best thing you can do is rest when you can. Identify your triggers before you hit them. After Roll Call...look at your day and identify and trouble spots. And always be prepared for the ones you don't see, that is the real test.

Quit on Josey.
Loot, where ya been? Missing those words of support and wisdom.
Today is day 3. Nic should have vacated the premises by days end. Correct???

Still feeling strong.

Joe
Haha...you should be done with the physical withdrawal...so they say. LOOT got bad cases of the shakes for a least a month. IT was weird...couldn't hardly hold a glass. Smack your teeth with the rim when you actually get it to your face.

Congrats on getting past the first 3. That's quite an accomplishment. Be proud man.

Joe,

Found this tidbit in the July 14 HOF group (from ZQUITTER)....had to pass along!

You all may have thought of this already but if not, hope it helps with a couple triggers... instead of getting mouth cancer.

Taking a shit used to be a trigger? Get some Crest 3D White pre brush rinse. Rinse while shitting. Can you go the whole time without drooling? It's a new why to multi task. Really though... don't drool on the toilet carpet because it bleaches rugs as well as whitening teeth..

Need to kill 60 minutes (drying clothes, waiting at the DMV, ...)? Try white strips. You get a slimey goo to spit out (or swallow) and it has a little burn when the peroxide leaks out.

Driving time killer... grapes. I ate a 1.5 pound bag on the drive to LA. Yeah, a few calories, but better than carcinogens! I like the black grapes myself. I also keep pears ad plums in my car. (Quit Pringles around day 30.) I could never drive without using. Trying to eat healthy now and then I don't eat so much hamburger helper when I get home.

Any other quitting tips out there?
Now thats funny.

Ill try anything. Added weight, although very much not needed, is not my concern. I am eating jerky, sunflower seeds, smartees, tootsie roll pops, fake dip, tons of water.
I have lots of triggers but none have even slightly turned me toward the "dark side".
