1. Rip off that patch
I was afraid someone would say that.
I will go ahead and save you the trouble of waiting for others to weigh in with their opinion. No active member of this site will tell you to continue using the patch. So go ahead and rip it off now. Yeah it's going to suck huge donkey balls for a little bit, but you will make it through...just as we all did. It can be done...one day at a time.

So I stumbled on KTC today after googling for wisdom from people who have quit dipping.  After reading some threads on the subject, I understand that using the patch isn't recommended and quitting cold turkey is.  However I am 7 days into the program, using 21mg patches and haven't had a dip since I started the program.  I really thought this was a milestone but realize the reality of it is - I'm still a slave to nicotine.

I started dipping 10 years ago when I quit smoking cigarettes.  This year I decided to take up cigar smoking along with the dip.  I usually have 1-2 cigars a week.

So for the past week I've had no dips or cigars but have been on the patch.  When I get a craving for a dip I bite down on a cigar (not lit).  That has helped a lot.

I feel like an idiot for not putting 2 and 2 together.  I'm just changing vehicles to get to the same destination.  Cigarettes, Dip, Cigars, Patch - Nicotine

So now that I've had this epiphany, what do I do?  Should I just rip the patch off and deal with it?  I presume this site would not exists if it were that easy.  I am really afraid of failure and I believe that if I continue the patch program my chances of quitting nicotine will improve.  The concept is to lower the dosage every 3 weeks to ween myself off of it.  Seems logical no?

Bottom line is, I want to quit all this shit together.  Your wisdom is what I seek.
My kid watches that Agent Oso fellow on the Disney Channel all the time....that stuffed bear provides "3 special steps" to complete a task. Here are your steps.

1. Rip off that patch
2. Read 1-4 HERE
3. Head over to March 2011, post up and reclaim your life

FYI...it's more fun if you sing the song. Three Special Steps
