What I have learned in my first month of quit:

1. If you want to be a quitter you have to be prepared

Being prepared is essential to survival in the quit. Having some fake stuff is not a sign of weakness in my opinion, it is a sign of respect for the wicked ways of the nic bitch but it also shows a level of dedication. You have taken any excuse to bum a dip off a buddy or drive to the store to buy a can off the table. You donÂ’t need one because you have your lifeline in your pocket. It doesnÂ’t matter what fake it is whether itÂ’s just coffee grounds or hooch. When it comes down to it, it could save your life.

2.If you want to be a quitter you have to be active.

Out of everybody that has fallen from my group so far, only a couple I have considered active in the group. We have lost 61 people in our group already and only a couple of them ever got active in the group. If you want to make it, be active. Post roll every day. Post support in other groups, post support in your groups intros, make your intro a journal, get into the live chat, and do whatever it takes to connect to KTC. Because someone you connect with will fall under the next two pieces.

3.If you want to be a quitter you have to find your quit gang.

I tried every way I could to quit the easy way. Patches, gum, I even tried a fucking hypnotist for fuck sake. But the best solution I ever found was my October group. With kakao we have developed some great quit support. Supporting each other makes our quits stronger. I donÂ’t want to let any of them down. ThatÂ’s the first thing that pops into my head when I get a crave because I hurt their quit if I give up on mine. At 31 days the gang has even grown to other groups as well.

4.If you want to be a quitter you have to ask for help.

On day 3 I had a massive panic attack while driving for the first time. I had full body shakes and was an inch from caving. I got on the site and posted in the 911 group. Immediately people rushed to my aid. Cbird got there first. He took about 45 minutes out of his day to help a new guy and a guy he didnÂ’t know. He saved my quit and my life. Many people fade away without asking for help. I do not recommend trying to do the manly exile quit, youÂ’ve tried it before. It didnÂ’t work.
great post here Southpaw, and a realization of what all can happen when someone joins KTC and invests a little time and effort.

well done, keep it up, and I will be there standing 'right' beside you in this journey.

So day 10 brought the first rage day I've had yet. Didn't really understand what some people were talking about when it came to the rages but I get it now. That shit doesn't go away at all I had to work out until I couldn't move last night to calm down. These keep showing up I might just look like Arnold Schwarzenegger by day 100.
sounds like you had rage, didn't feed it nic, decided to work out instead. That is a win. Congrats on day 10 and on another victory.
SouthPaw, Welcome to the best place to get back your freedom.
Bring your rage here, in chat, get digits from your group, rage is normal.
I raged so bad I ran off customers...funny now looking back.
At the time I didn't even realize what I was doing...that's another side effect of ingesting poison most of my life. Getting clean/quit is a process. Give yourself time...one day at a time.
Life is waaaaayyyyyy gooder without the poison. It does get easier and sweeter.
one more point: learn to hate nic for what it really is...Poison. You can do this ODAAT and NAFAR, period
Nice post. Withdrawals are really fucked up. You go from spacing out, to code red angry to spaced out again. I think the great point is, if something makes you act like that, you should keep yourself as far away from it as you can. Good job finding an alternative.

That's good you let it out in a healthy way Southpaw. Important to point the anger in a healthy direction and not family, friends, coworkers. That anger is sign your winning, you realize the time you've wasted on the nic bitch.

Keep up the quit brother!

I have been dipping for ten years. My entire adult life has been spent finger fucking a can of grizz wintergreen.
Josh the majority of us can say the same thing with the brand being the only difference. My entire adult life was spent in that can until 2 years ago. The main difference between you and me; my adult life spans 4 decades. The first time I stopped for any length of time I was your age and I 'quit' for the girl ive been married to for 34 years. Guess what? After a couple years the can snuck into our marriage and the mistress took first seat but quietly and behind the scenes.
This will take all you have and a lot of outside help to conquer but it is possible. Especially the next few weeks you will need to commit to 100% concentration on quitting. Outside attractions or diversions from quitting is your addicted mind trying to throw you a curve ball.

You got one thing right, accountability is here. We demand it from everyone.

Second, we are all dumbasses for ever putting that crap in our mouth. Regardless of why we did, how cool we thought we were or how much nooky we thought it was going to get us, we were stupid. Now we are reclaiming those days of stupidity!! So if you dipped for 10 yrs, you have 3,650 days to get to stupidity Level 0. Then you get into the smartness range.

Need any info drop me a PM.

PS: get some digits from your buds in October group. Use it as a lifeline. Or send sexts. Or both, either way, use it!

Join the club Brutus, sports, and specifically baseball was the start from so many of us. In terms of being a quitter I think it's hard for guys in their 20's to quit as they don't fully realize the ramifications of caving. So many guys here have seen a cave lead to years, if not decades of more dipping. So Lefty my advice to you is to grind as hard you can, and make this your only quit. You can do this but you're going to go through a shit storm and back. Make a promise everyday and live up to the promise. Good luck.

I like the brutal honesty in your intro. Guess what we have heard the story before. We are all stupid addicts but we are aware and with that awareness comes responsibility. We post roll every single day and hold our brothers and sisters accountable.

Welcome aboard I am here to help you however I can.

So, what are you? Two years out of college? Not drafted (I'm assuming)....Can play in a city men's league, but let's face it...The "glory" days are over.

Don't romanticize the dipping, drinking and smoking. NOBODY thought you were bad ass because you did those things. YOU thought you were bad ass.

You are fortunate to have found this site along with your desire to kick your addiction to the curb. Get busy Lefty. Read and learn. Ask questions, look up answers. Post roll and make your promise to stay quit for that day.

Was encouraged to make one of these so here it goes.

Name is Josh, I'm 24 years old, and I have been dipping for ten years. My entire adult life has been spent finger fucking a can of grizz wintergreen.

I'm a baseball guy, played it forever. My first dip was before a game that I threw a one hit shutout. After that dip and baseball were my life. By the time I was 16 I was dipping a can a day and smoking a pack of reds everyday because I'm a dumbass. I was the ultimate cool high school kid. Carried my bad habits to college and I pitched in college baseball for five years. I always used baseball an excuse to not quit or to quit quitting. I guess I finally ran out excuses to myself and I ran out of eligibility too. I had been looking at this site one of the other times I tried quitting but it looked to serious for the sad attempt of a quit I was on. I came here for the accountability and I know I'll get it.

I used to be scared of how people would react if I quit. I had made this reputation as the whiskey drinking dip spitting craziest SOB anybody had ever seen. And if I stopped dipping nobody would think I was a badass anymore.

I know what you're thinking..."Josh, that's fucking stupid." Well put sir. Now you know why I'm here. I got to fix the stupid.

Quit on 6/28/14. Keep it going boys
Josh, welcome to KTC. First of all we are all stupid addicts. Addict behavior masks the reality of how stupid each and everyone of us is/was. Funny thing is that it isn't just baseball that is the excuse for many. There is baseball because most of the others do it, there is working on cars because that is how someone else does it, fishing because that is how grandpa did it, rodeo because cowboys do it, military because that is how badasses do it...we could go on forever.

Now learn from that lifetime of lies and take your life back one day at a time. If this shit was easy then no one here would need KTC. I myself needed the Accountability, Brotherhood and Commitment that KTC garners.

Here are some example areas to look at, review keep close at hand (all underlined words are links to KTC sections):

Kern's Story

Sean Marsee story (video)

Smokeless Alternatives or as I call them plan B

Symptoms of Quitting

Finally, remember that 100 days is a milestone not the end. You have to want this and let the lifestyle change. It is going to suck until it doesn't; there will be good days and bad days, just remember that life is only great if you can live it for yourself.

Congrats on posting Day 4 today, well done. I am a fellow October quitter from 2013, if you need a phone number to have someone at your fingertips let me know.
