I can't stop myself! I'm dipping right now and feel terrible about it. What can I do to get my mind off of dip? The cravings just dont go away after a few days. I really want to quit and have tried so many times. Can anyone post some of their experiences on what they did to get their mind off of it? What can I do? I feel like its running my life.
The craves aren't going to ever go away if you keep stuffing a dip in your mouth everytime it gets unbearable. Don't let it get to that point. Have a plan a for these situations and follow it.

We can help but this ultimately comes down to you RockyMountain, you ultimately have to decide what to do. This isn't easy, there is no short cut. Are a couple of weeks of hell worth it, or would you rather be controlled by the contents of a little round can for the rest of your life?

Your choice....

Edit: ...and don't post in a quit group and then come out here a few minutes later with dip in anymore either.

Yes, you can stop yourself. Everyone here has battled with this addiction. I got some news for you, the cravings don't go away in 3 days. It takes time, but in my case the cravings become less every day. Now I go days without thinking about dipping. I still get craving/twinge from time-to-time, but now I have the tools to deal with it.

The first couple weeks are tough, but you have the power to make it through. Find the distraction you need. For me, it was spending time here. I read and read. There are plenty of things here. Pick some new hobbies, start exercising, or really anything to keep you busy. Just try hard to not put yourself in situation where you will fail.

You feel like the dip is running you life? That is because it is and will continue to do so until you do something about it.

You will find the best support here, all you have to do is accept it. You make the committment to quit this ugly addiction and you will have plenty of support. So spit out that dip and lets get started!
Time heals but I'm forever broken

The "binge" method?! Really? Cmon dude. I have heard some really stupid things in my time but this by far ranks right up towards the top. And then ask how to get your mind off of dip? The cravings are not going to go away in a few days you are right. This shit aint easy! It is going to take some work on your part. There is no magic pill. The first thing you need to do is flush all of the shit you have down the toilet. Get rid of it!
To occupy your mind I suggest reading everything on this site word for word. Look at the cancer pics. Print shit, tape it to your frig, bathroom mirror, whatever the hell it takes. There is plenty of valuable information here to keep your mind busy. Post roll everyday, get some phone numbers and become accountable! Make a believer out of us because so far what I have heard is WEAK! You first posted on March 6. It is March 25 and you have 4 posts! Dont waste our time!

Hi all. I'm Chris from Colorado and i started dipping heavily over a year ago. I was living in SW Virginia near Tenn. at a State park where everyone dipped or chewed. I used to dip once in a while when playing ice hockey bc it gave me a rush and also kept me focused. When I started working in the south, the culture got me. I was lured by the blue colar rural image. All my coworkers dipped Husky, Cope or Skoal. I started with the fruit skoal crap and my friends I came to VA with to work most all smoked pack per day and thought it was great I joined with them.

By October last year my friend Brad and I were helping out with Hurricane Ike relief and were filling up a 2 liter bottle with spit and tobacco for a gift to our friend who was completely against smoking, dipping and drinking. this was probably my low point because I was dipping a can and a half per day.

When I moved back to Colorado I stayed with my parents for 2 months until I could find a job and place to live. I was sneaking around spitting in bottles and driving in the night to go pick up a can of grizzly straight. My Dad found out and was really sad. I moved out a few weeks later and told them I had quit. I hadnt because I was too addicted to stop and too ashamed to tell them I couldnt.

This week I have tried to quit 2 times by doing a binge method. First I would buy a can and then every 30 mins spit out the chaw and do it again until the can was finished. by this time I was sweating and tired and didnt want to do it again. After about 2 days I would get an uncontrolable craving and cave so i decided to cold turkey it and found this board online.

This is it. I dont want cancer, i'm tired of spending so much money, im sick of lying and I need to better my lifestyle.

This is it. As of this morning at midnight, I quit. Mar 5 2009
Rocky-
You've certainly made a wise choice and this site is an excellent source of support and education. Trust me, you're going to need both to be successful in your quit. Get in a group, start posting roll and read every resource they have available. Take each day as it comes and don't worry about the days to follow. Sounds stupid but has been effective for me. Make no mistake, you will have some super shitty days ahead as you "detox" off the nicotine. But know this, you will have days to follow that are amazing. If you need support/have questions, shoot me a pm. You can do this!

There's nothing nicotine has to offer that I need. Never has been, never will be.
