Thanks Wintergreen for the support. My prayer before I began was that God would grant me the strength and resolve to see this process through. He has done exactly that for me. My strength and resolve are resolute. I'm done. Never again. NAFAR. My portion of the quit agreement ( the physical addiction) is still an hourly struggle. But my struggle is answered with the strength and resolve to bear through the urge. The urges are still strong but my resolve is stronger! Thanks for helping Jesus. I need it every hour of every day.
You've got this and I quit with you everyday!

Just wanted to drop you a note to warn you of a possible trap. You would not be the first to get a clean bill of health followed by a trip to the c store. I hope the tests comeback good, be sure not to use that as an ok. The fight can be hard but the reward is worth it. By the way, no tooth picks, candy fake for me anymore. It keeps getting better, it just is hard to tell some days!

Thanks MB. I'm staying strong as well just sweating out a questionable tooth and a sore esophagus. I have a dental appt and an appt to scope my throat in the next 2 weeks. Hopefully all s well. I'll never dip again. I love being nicotine free. I quit with you brother.
Airbus, take your quit one day at a time. You will be just fine. All you have to do is not use nicotine. Its that easy. Chew sugar free trident or something, thats good for your mouth.

Hi AirbusPilot, I dipped for 33 years so I know where you are coming from. I've been quit 43 days and I promise you that slowly you will change/adjust. I still have craves, but I won't cave...ever! I love the freedom I'm starting to have from the can.

I used the fake stuff (Jakes) for the first 30 days and then stopped. I just didn't want it. I still go thru a pocket full of wintergreen life savers and expect I will for some time.

I can't add anything of value to what the experts already told you, so stay quit and pm me if I can help.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. When does the oral fixation leave?

Different for everyone but my experience; I used fake dip daily for 90 days and then it started boring me. Now after 2 years this week I found I need something on a road trip and I pulled out the seeds. For now concentrate on keeping nicotine out of your body, not worrying about anything else. Don't be afraid of the fake dips they can help and aren't addicting.

Extaggie hit the nail on the head with all of his points. There is a lot of nicotine talk coming from youÂ…work through the fog and then re-read what you wrote, you won't recognize that person in a short time.

My opinionÂ…the oral fixation is the least of your worries. Gum, seeds, toothpicks, mints, hard candy, or the fake stuff. Whatever it takes to prevent you from putting the nicotine in your mouth. That should be your first priority. We don't wean off nicotine here, we quit cold turkey. But if you need to wean of toothpicks and gum, well, I don't think anyone will give you a hard time about that.

After 30 years of nicotine abuse (1-2 cans per day 24/7) and 675 days of real freedom I still have a slight oral fixation.
Early in my quit, I used candy, water, gum, seeds, peanuts, more candy, more gum, toothpicks, did I say candy? Today, I use about 6 toothpicks a day. just regular old round toothpicks from Walmart.(cheap)
Bottom line: You do whatever you have to do to "NOT" put the poison in your mouth. Even if it means using a fake product or catshit or fishing worms.

Remember: One problem + nicotine = 2 problems.
Today is a gift, that's why it is called "the present".
Do or Do Not, there is no Try!

The fight for freedom is worth every battle. It is real simple, yet possibly the hardest thing you will ever do in your life.
Real simple: Post roll, keep your word, wake and repeat. Works for me and 40,000 other KTC Quitters.
In your beginning you hold the stick, later you will use autopilot. Cheers.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. When does the oral fixation leave? I know it's different for everyone, but I just wondered how long it lasted for you (weeks. months, or years?). Also I never heard the explanation about oxygen absorption and nicotine. That's nice to read as well.
Lot of facts about nicotine are on this site. While your learning to post role, take a look around. Learn your enemy, it will change the game.

When I quit this time I figured it was time I learned what, why, and hows of nicotine.
What a difference that made. I always say,,, Learn your enemy, it knows you.

Nicotine deprives your brain of oxygen. When you stop using your brain begins getting the oxygen you have deprived it. In your case over 37 years. This is why it takes time to recover. It takes 3 to 4 weeks for your brain to repair most of the damage you've done. I repeat, most!

Don't know how long it takes the oral fixation to leave,, 409 days and I still have toothpick a couple times a day. It seems to be less and less. Not really worried about a toothpick or two though. Quit with you.

The poison sucks. I hate it. I hated it this morning, I hated it at noon, I hated it at supper and I hate it tonight. I enjoy hating it so much I'm going to wake up tomorrow and start over hating it. I quit with anyone that wants to hate it with me.
