Quit day 1
« Reply #2 on: March 09, 2018, 08:44:00 PM »
Hi all,
I started dipping Kodiak at age 14, tried quitting a few times over the years, never made it more than a week. Tried the gum, tried smoking (!), could never kill the can or the nic bitch.
34 years later I had a perio appointment and they need to do gum grafting. Of course they won't before I quit, so here I go. Last chew was last night and I'm really in a brain fog with lots of cravings. I chewed at least 1.5 cans/day recently.
If you can do it, so can I. Cold turkey hardcore quit commencing. Can't wait for day 2, day 100, and day 1000. Please tell me it gets better! I have a feeling tomorrow and the next day are gong to be total nightmares. I made a huge list of things to do, but it's hard to harness nervous energy - just feel like I'm going to go crazy.

Thanks for this site,
KodiakDeath

(P.S. I see the roll thing but haven't figured it out yet)

It gets better.

I started around 14. Chewed a good can a day for 25 years. Kodiak.

Tomorrow’s gonna suck. But you are gonna win. When you do 300 lunges your legs hurt like hell. For a while. Do them long enough and the pain gets less and less. And your legs look so amazing your wife/girlfriend can’t keep her hands off them. That's winning. And that’s what quitting is like. One day at a time it gets better. No pain, no gain.

If I can do this, bro you can too.

There is no wrong way to post roll at first. Go to June 18 and try. And win.

If you need a contact, shoot me a pm. 1,902 days ago I told Kodiak to fuck off. I’m proud to quit with you bro.

Thanks worktowin. This group is great. I don't really have any day-to-day support. Single, no family nearby, always hid chew at work so no one knows I was a chewer. I associate practically everything with chew so this just seems impossible. I know it's not but the mountain is huge.
Re: the roll, it's the "go to June 18 and try" that I don't understand. Where is that and what does it mean?

Thanks!

Go here and post your name and day 1 to the list. You’ll fuck itbup snd fonit wrong. Someone will fix it. Don’t worry about it. Tomorrow when you wake up go to this page, go to the bottom and find the last page in the thread and post your name and day 2.

I think you and I are gonna get along well. I was a ninja dipper too. Chewed like a fucking hampster every time I was alone. I tried to quit constantly. But once I got here and learned that I wasn’t alone... that I quit as a team... I was successful. I couldn’t let my team down. Much less me.

You can do this bro. Post roll. Every day.

Someone will help guide you how to do it correctly later. For now, just get your name on roll.

Thanks, I did what you said. Then I found the instructions, but they are still confusing. Maybe it makes more sense in the morning when there aren't a bunch of extra posts clogging it up?
Looking forward to hell day - everyone says day 2 is the worst, I guess I'll find out.
Thanks again.

34 years. When you type it out and look at it, it's staggering. I did the same. Smoked in the Navy. Quit 3,424 times.
Gum grafting? Sounds pleasant. Hope it hurts like hell. If there were ever a kick in the pants....
Some important KTC ternamoligy:
WUPP - wake up, piss, post. The idea is your quit is priority #1 in your life right now. You start your day with it. late posters have a high probability of failure. I hope to see you early.
EDD - every damn day. As in WUPP EDD.
IQWYT is commonly included when folks post. It means "I quit with you today"; I have never seen anyone post IQAOMOTAIDNYB (I quit all on my own today and I don't need you basterds!) though that attitude is prevalent around day 21 with some people.
You'll pick it up. You gotta start somewhere, glad you started here with us!
IQWYT!

Thanks Athan,
Yeah I think I got my final kick in the pants. Slave to the can no more.
I'll probably have to do the WUPFDP (wake up, piss, feed dog, post) since there's a good chance I'll screw up roll with him breathing down my neck ;) Like I did this morning, but I think I got it now.
IQWYT!!!

Good job getting on roll. Start reading around the site, intros, HOF speeches and your quit group. I was in the same boat as you 126 days ago and things are so much better. I was a Kodiak user for 31 years and know the grip it has on you. Put in the hard work in one day at a time and the grip will begin loosening and you will be on your way to freedom. I quit with you today.

It’s so amazing to be on here and see that you aren’t alone. Or even unique. And to see that, although tough, others have succeeded at what feels almost impossible.

Bro reach out for help if you need it. You can do this.

It does get better. Like... so much better you wouldn’t believe me I told you. It will happen. One day at a time.

You can do it. I am on Day 65 today. I chewed for 35 years. Started on Skoal, then switched to Kodiak, then switched to Copenhagen because I didn't like the taste of it and I thought it would help me quit. It didn't help me quit and I instead acquired a taste for Copenhagen which lasted for 20 more years before I switched to Grizzly Long Cut Natural in an effort to save some money. I have no idea how many cans I chewed over the years or how much money I wasted on that shit. But, I finally sacked up and said enough is enough. I feel great! IQWYT!

Thanks for the comments and support guys, all of it helps so much.

Since it looks like the intros are often expanded into a diary, I'll throw something down from Day 3 of my quit (yesterday).

Against perhaps better judgement I planned a first date with someone I met online for day 3. Normally this would be a fairly stressful event (trigger #1) with me loading up on plenty of kodiak prior to, and afterwards. Driving to the date location I would typically have a big fat chew in my mouth. I would schedule my chewing so that before my arrival I had time to spit it out, gargle/rinse all the chew out of my teeth, pop some Altoids, check my thumb and forefinger for chew stains, get the can out of my pocket, and make sure the can and the spit bottle were hidden from view in the car. This time there was NONE of that, just a drive with breath from freshly brushed teeth and no bullshit.

During the date I had a nice big meal (trigger #2), my first beer since quitting (trigger #3), and after the date we went for a coffee (trigger #4). On the drive home, all of these triggers piled on, and combined with driving (trigger #5) it created the biggest crave I have yet to experience. No brothers and sisters I did not cave, I owned my quit! But by the time I got home I was completely exhausted from the intense, long crave, I had to go lay down for several minutes and recover. Eventually the crave went away. I don't suggest anyone try this especially early in your quit, but it showed me how powerful KTC is, and the daily promise. I just knew there was no way I was going to cave. Stay strong people! IQWYT

P.S. one quick question: Is Day 1 the first 24 hour day in which I had no nicotine? In that case, yes today I am on day 4. I'm confused because it looks like some people are counting the day they took their last chew as day 1. I'm wonder if I get an extra day out of this! :P Ok I doubt it.

The day you spit out your last chew is considered day 1.

You already met some bad asses in here I see.

Athan is from my April group, WorktoWin is one of the best around.

Read everything and drink the Kool-Aid.

I was a Kodiak guy for 18ish years.

Today is my day 70 quit.

Jump in the deep end and burn the boats.

1.WUPPEDD- make that promise
2. keep that promise
3. repeat

Be a man of your word and you will succeed

Reach out if you ever need anything, PM if you want digits.

Watching you post every day makes my day man.
I know the craves are still there a little bit but it does get better.
See to it you have some digits, they're like mortar in your wall of quit.
PM me if you don't. I'd be happy to ride shotgun with you.

Day 23 update:

The fog (what I call "brain squeeze") has lifted ever so slightly, but I still get heavy cravings especially after food, coffee, or beer.
I thought I would get more cravings while driving but those only lasted a few days after day 1. Stress is still quite the trigger.

Staying active with KTC, and in contact with vets and June brothers has helped a ton. In spite of the cravings I haven't had the urge to buy a can or dip. It's more like this force I have to fight off, even though I know I'm going to win, it wears me down. Seeing a guy in another group cave after 75 days scares the shit out of me. All I can do is stay vigilant to the nic bitch and take one day at a time. 34 years of dipping has taken it's toll on my brain and I need to be patient and strong while it repairs itself.

Thanks to the vets and June brothers for helping me and everyone else stay quit.

Day 70 update:

Some weeks are better than others. Days 60-70 have been tough, hard to focus and sleepy at work, not getting good sleep. I don't get the hard hammering craves anymore, just soft gentle ones. It's like the nic bitch is trying to sneak back into my life, speaking sweetly "wouldn't things be better with me in your life? You can focus, you can stay awake". The answer is hell no. I don't miss the hot stinky spitters in the car (thanks Skol for that reminder), sneaking dips, raw lips, and all the money I've saved. I'm giving myself the best gift ever, and feel more free, every day.

A couple of people have asked why I have such a stupid name, kodiakdeath. I signed up a week before I quit, which was planned, and maybe stupid, but that's another story. At the very moment I had to pick my username, the only thing that was going through my mind was that my brain was soaked with nicotine. Fucking drowning in chew spit. It was the worst feeling, like my body was dead from chew all those years. Every time I looked at my username I wanted to be reminded of that moment, that feeling. That using this horrible thing called kodiak felt like death, and that once I quit I was never going to use this shit again. So kodiakdeath.
