Okay.....posted roll today with my first weigh in UNDER when I started my quit. I know weight gain is a nasty side effect for most of us, especially us dudes over 40.

Here are the stats, which are frightening...

Started Quit at 208.5
Highest weight reached during quit at 218.5 (previous all time fattest was 212)
Weighed in today at 207

Been in the mid 190's for about the last 5 years.

Here is the plan.
Cardio - Long, slow low heart rate cardio - literally walking, but for at least an hour. As a previous distance runner, it was really hard to start walking....especially on the treadmill....but I must tell you, the results and the fat burning is amazing.

Weights - heavy, bulk exercises. I got a trainer and we have been doing shit I have not done since high school. Dead lift, Bench, Squat. Serious focus on legs and back.

Diet - not really following one right now, but just eating clean and focusing on more protein and fat and less carbs. Altho I have very intrigued by the Paleo diet and may give that a whirl. Have sworn off heavy beers (IPA, Stouts, etc) so basically drinking light beer and vodka and wine when I drink. Done with diary and done with salt. Gave up caffeine. Seems like quitting NIC makes quitting other things easier too. For those that know me, I probably don't need any extra stimulation :-) The real big benefit of getting off caffeine is that I am WAYYY more hydrated. Also, in the morning have a Power Juice Shake - mostly fruit and veggies. Take a major dump....then eat....cleanse NOT clog first thing in the am.

Supplements - this has been one of the biggest and unexpected benefits. I took some tests - both saliva and blood and like most of us, my stress level was to the fucking moon. Which causes cortisol to increase and causes you to store belly fat. I have to imagine that the stress of a quit causes cortisol to sky rocket. So am taking Relora PLus and Melatonin. Am much more calm. On top of this, am doing the usual - Multi vitamin, fish oil, probiotic. One other area is sex hormones - again for us guys in our 40's. When we get fat from a quit, our testosterone and estrogen get all of of whack. My blood test told me i was at the high end of the estrogen range and below middle for testosterone. So am taking a T booster, DIM (which is an estrogen blocker) and DHEA. I have been 100% compliant taking these supps for the last 6 weeks and feel amazing.

Books that have been inspiring:
Younger next year - amazing
The Paleo Solution
It starts with Food
The Primal Blueprint

All of these have common themes.

My goal is to get to 185 which is where I was before turning 40. Am now 45.

Oh yeah - AND NO NIC!!!!!!!!

Thought I would share boys - I tried to focus really hard on fitness early in my quit - say the first 3 months - and I gotta tell you.....maybe its just me....but battling the nic bitch early on takes a lot of will power. I dont think that is best time to focus on this. Its like, quit, put on 10 pounds and 6 months in, shred it off.

A little wordy, but thought I would share.

Day 265 - QUIT and Peace brothers......
Nice work Clean! If I may, I'd like to offer up another book you may find worth the read. It is called "The Warrior Diet" by Ori Hofmakler, an Israeli spec ops soldier who is now in his late 50's and looks about 30. Fantastic concept in the book and the eating plan is easy to integrate. I've been on it for the last 2.5 years and have maintained the weight I've wanted. Incredibly efficient for any lifestyle. I recommend it highly. If you ever need a second opinion on training, diet, etc. just shoot me a line.

QLAFM
Thanks E!!! just bought on iBooks!

will definitely take you up on your offer - if I recall in the early days you told me that this is your business
Max in life as Right Guard at Muhlenberg College. 287lbs.
Figured I couldn't get laid without giving women free beer and illicit drugs like in college, so dropped to 220. Met future wife. Got laid. Gained 40 back from comfortability.

Weight Watchers, eating fresh and locally inly, and taking up trail running got me to a really healthy 195.

2012: Finger surgery that sidelined me for two months, ruptured disk, another month. Decent summer (completed two 50K ultra marathons at 205.) Another ruptured disk episode, steroids for the second time. Then I quit. Gained 5. Hit 100 days. Took an 11 day staycation (running snd drinking) for the holidays, and hit 215... Decided to stop drinking for 30 days, but dealing with tons of insecurity and anxiety.

Based in the stuff within here, I need ringer with you guys.

That's all for now, but I'm subscribing to this topic.

Am sure there are plenty of differing opinions of Tony, but after reading all of his stuff for years, I decided to go to Unleash the Power Within with my wife this weekend.

Figured it was a great way to strengthen my quit and create focus and take the second half of my life to the next level.

All I can say is that I am exhausted and it was totally worth it. Outstanding 4 days.

The fire walk was HUGE.

Day 4 at Tony Robbins in Orlando.
