My name is Dave and I have been chewing some form of tobacco for the better part of 30 yrs. It seems surreal to actually write that because I don't think of myself as a dipper. It started in a rural town where all the cool older kids did it. I was hooked. I managed to quite for a couple of years in 95 but on a drive up to Atlanta to the summer Olympics, I caved in. That was 20 yrs ago. My girlfriend doesn't really know how addicted I am because I've downplayed it, probably just kidding myself.
I'm into my 3rd day dip free and I'm still committed and still clean. I have thought about choking everyone around me, but decided jail is not a good option. Every time I want a dip, I chug a water. My biggest fear is getting on my flats boat without a chew. I don't think I've ever done it before. I know some people say to avoid having a drink but I don't drink. It's the boat that's the catalyst.
Anyway, here goes! Day 3. I quit for my Grandfather. Someone tell me I'll be happier without it please.

Dave
Dave, first and foremost is great that you are quitting. The way it works here is that you have to quit for yourself first. It's admirable that you mentioned your Grandfather, but you have to quit for you first. With that, the next step for you is to join the Aug quit group since you quit on Aug 23rd. Once you locate that group post roll per the instructions. We post roll every day, early in the day. It's our commitment to ourselves and the group that we are quit for the day. Then we do this everyday.

Go Post Roll! Welcome to KTC. Great decision on your part to quit. Make it for you! I am here to quit with ya!
My Grandfather died of esophageal cancer from tobacco. It haunts me.

Awesome work! How did the dentist go? Tell them your are quit, tell them to write it in your chart.
Keep it up, and while I know it sounds weird, you can fish without a chew in...
Got a clean bill of health from the dentist. They really looked around my mouth. Big relief.
That is great news fish! Proud to be quitting with ya! Keep on with your strong quit.
sweet! Now one less thing to worry about. Concentrate on your quit. Proud to be quit with you today!

Well, last night was the first night in 10 days that I didn't wake up at some ungodly insane hour of the night in a nic fit. I am thankful and grateful for all of the support from August and past HOFers. I am on day 10 and going strong. The thought of a dip or chew actually makes me nauseous right now. I am not complacent, but am happy about how I feel physically.

^^ Dude is absolutely correct. For yourself. Others can be encouragement and reap the benefits of you being clean and sober, but it cannot be for them. One day at a time. No more. One second at a time is acceptable and at times needed. We are not promised tomorrow so we don't promise tomorrow. Daily roll, make that promise. It gets tons better. Drink plenty of water. Just till your teeth are swimming. Go piss, drink more water. It will help with The Suck. Jaw pain and tooth pain is expected whilst quitting and oft times way past the 30 days. If you can afford to go to the dentist go. Be honest with the dentist. Develop a plan of treatment for anything and follow through. Use the network here. Your want. Your desire. Your quit.
Going to the dentist on Thursday. I go 4 times a year, but for some reason I'm absolutely petrified this time. Nothing different except I realized I'm old and mortal.

On day 8, I am strong. I know all of the physical symptoms are what everyone experiences but they scare the heck outta me. I wish I could go back 31 yrs ago and never take that first chew. Because I know that I can't go back, I can be strong and not chew. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while at the same time expecting different results. I could never quit by myself. I quit with august and will not let any of you down.

Just a couple of hours and I'm through a full week of clean! My teeth tingle and I slap my tin pocket 100 times and day looking for the bitch that lived there for 30+ years!
This brotherhood of quitters is beyond my imagination.
Thanks to everyone. I am the last person in the August group to join so I'll be forever playing catchup with the rest in the group. My only prayer is that I am always quit behind them. The day I pass one of you is the day u failed and that is not an option.

Welcome Brother. You are now officially family. You absolutely will feel better. But remember it DOES take time. Take it one day at a time. I am on day 5 and its been hell but manageable for sure.

Welcome Dave! It does get oh so much better but it's gonna take a while. Remember 30 plus years of dipping is going to take a while to feel normal. I dipped 38 years also started when I was 12. Hell if you're like me it will take awhile to figure out what normal is, matter of fact was so young I'm just now figuring out what normal is and I love it! Be the man! Own your quit! This shits not easy, dipping was easy. You can damn sure do this! Post early EDD! ODAAT! Quit on!
Tobacco is so addictive it took me a year after a massive heart attack, in which doctor confirmed caused from dipping to finally put a lid on the bitch! ODAAT EDD

Another 30 year veteran of stupidity here... picked it up playing sports from some of the older kids when I was 12 and never looked back. I am sure like the rest of us you've stopped a thousand times before determined to be quit... and then bought a new can the next morning. There's a difference now though, this site works. Brotherhood + accountability = success. All you have to do is post your promise and then have enough integrity to stick to your word for 24 hours. That's all there is to it. Check your PM for my info. If you need someone to talk you down or bitch to or celebrate a big win, we're here with you.

ETA: Yes it does eventually get better. For now embrace the suck and remember how bad it is. It's one more reason never to post another day 1. Mean time, drink lots and lots of water to help with headaches and toxin flush, exercise or walking will help with the anxiety and if you are on any blood pressure meds, watch your blood pressure over the next few weeks as Nicotine really inflates your numbers.
Unlike quitting products, total adherence to a personal commitment to not violate the law of addiction provides a 100% guarantee of success. Although obedience may not always be easy, the law is clear, concise and simple - no nicotine today, not one puff, dip or chew!
