Congratulations on making the decision to quit! I just decided to quit myself and I'm on day #3. So far, all the guys here have been really helpful.

Good Luck,

Brent

Welcome Scott! Congrats on making it here while your only 23. I took me 16 years to figure it out, and others hear took much, much longer. You are way ahead for recognizing this now.

How to quit: Don't put dip in your mouth! Sound simple? It is.

It can also be a very difficult thing. There will be 3-4 really shitty days ahead, and nothing, including the fake stuff, will lessen this physical nicotine withdrawal. After those first few days, this turns into a mental battle. Getting involved with your June quit group will help you through that. I'm sure someone will come behind me and post you some links on the how and why of roll call. (I'd do it, but my phone won't let me.)

As far as the fake stuff goes, it helped me tremendously with the oral fixation part of quitting. Others here will disagree, but if it helps, use it. Another bright idea that some new quitters get is to us patches, gum, cigs, etc. DON'T DO IT. Those products all contain nicotine, and will only help to extend the painful physical withdrawal out for months or more. Nut up for 72 hours and the pain is over.(By the way, the failure rates of those using these products is nearly 97%.)

What this all boils down to though is your decision to quit. Make that decision day by day, hour by hour, even minute by minute if needed. You are 100% in control of your success.

Again, welcome.

Hi everyone,

My name is Scott and I'm a 23 year old recent college grad (I guess May 09 is still pretty recent.) I went to school in the south and picked up dipping right away. I have a very addictive personality and of course the nicotine sucked me right up. I began dipping kodiak wintergreen, one of the worst dips possible. I quickly escalated to a can a day freshman year of college and somehow didnt think i had a problem. Over the next 3 years of college I've attempted to quit with no success. I would go a month off and then come back even more addicted than before. I'm not trying to make excuses, becuase i know thats what every addicted person tries to do, but i lived in a house with 6 of my fraternity brothers for 2 years who all dipped as well. The chances of me quitting then weren't too high. I have been out of school for almost a year and realized the peer pressure isn't there and yet I still cannot stop. Worst yet, my younger brother just went to school down south and started dipping which makes me feel responsible. I want to quit not only for myself but also to show him how to do it. Cancer scares, mouth sores, and all of that haven't been enough to get me too quit for good, so i dont know what will. I read about the fake dip and what not. Has anyone had success with that or is it just a scam? I'm glad i found this site because I think it will help to hear what other people are going through and be able to talk with people who understand exactly what is happening to me. I look forward to quitting with all of you and hope I can help in every way possible. Thank you.
