Understanding Nicotine addiction

Imagine three jumbo jets filled to capacity crashing in the United States every single day, 365 days a year, killing everyone on board. Horrific to think about, but this example represents the number of precious lives lost to tobacco day in and day out in the United States alone. No other product on the market today would be allowed to have this mortality rate and still be sold. Tobacco use still tops the list as the most preventable cause of death in the United States today, accounting for 438,000+ deaths annually.

Estimates from the Centers for Disease Control tell us that 20.8% of the U.S. adult population, or 45.3 million people, currently use tobacco. Why given numbers of deaths as dramatic as these would anyone allow this toxic substance into their bodies? The simple answer to that is addiction! Nicotine is highly addictive; sometimes referred to as the perfect drug of addiction. Many of us were hooked the first time we used. If you think you are not addicted think again.

Statistics show that only small percentages (approximately 5-7%) of people who try to quit nicotine without support are still tobacco free a year later. However, those with a quit program in place that includes education about nicotine addiction and a solid support group, do much better.

Good news is you have found the place to finally cast aside the chains of addiction and gain control of your life. Question is will you use the tools offered here? Will you fight and beat this addiction? Or will you allow big tobacco and Nicotine to rob you of the most important thing you ownÂ… your life.

Choice is yoursÂ…..

you quit for 700 days with only 200 plus roll call posts?- no wonder your back, you never learned the secret handshake dummy.
"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

Well Burton, you have certainly confused the piss out of me. I haven't peeped your roll post yet so I'm just going to go ahead and assume that you are still shoveling shit in your lip.

From one young quitter to another, you're the type that gives us young guns a bad rap. You do the sprint to HOF and then figure you got this thing whooped. 700+ days, jesus-tap-dancing-christ. Takes a spineless pussy to cave when a friend simply offers you a dip.

hey, here's an idea...this time around get to know your Quit brothers are and you will never forget which damn group you are in. There's a start. Get your shit together. I don't take to kindly to your willy-nilly tactics.

Two of the simplest things always end up being the ones that people fuck up and cave on the most, whether you're on day 1 or day 701.

1. YOU ARE A FUCKING ADDICT!! YOU CAN'T HAVE JUST ONE!

2. POST ROLL EVERY FUCKING DAY!!

Step 2: Realize you are an addict, you can never dip again - period. Ever. If you do not internalize and come to grips with this, you will fail.

here's step 1 of your plan:

1. quit being a pussy, man up, and quit letting your friends pressure you into things you don't want to do.

Welcome back. I'm sure we would all like to hear a more detailed quit plan along with your apology. You're 22 years old you were quit for 2 years and caved. You have the opportunity to beat the bitch at a young age. You have the opportunity to not be a slave to the bitch for most of your adult years. Make this your final quit but do it one day at a time and continue to post with your group. I'm just guessing here, but is looks like you posted a little over 200 times, yet you were 700 days quit. You obviously left this site and stopped posting your promise. From everything I've learned in my short quit, we need to post each day and keep our promise that day. Not for only 1 day or only 100 days, but for as long as we want to stay quit, which in my case is forever.

Hey, I'm Ian, 22 years old, from Virginia.

This is my 2nd time back to the site, first attempt got me around the 700ish days mark. Couldnt give you an exact number, but i caved. Peer pressure has always been my worst enemy. One night a buddy offered me a chew, i said why not. Months went by and i would only have one chew a week (whenever i saw this friend). Then one night i got drunk, and went out to buy my own tin and it stuck ever since, i say ive been back doing it around 150 days or so.

I dont know what my plan is, but im back and i'm going to make it stick this time.

I'm not even sure what my old quit group was, but to all of those guys who helped me get through back then, i appoligize.

If anyone can link me to the quit group i belong in, i'd appreciate it.
Jeebus....where to start. How about your plan starts with learning about this place and how to navigate it? Maybe learn what it means to get connected to your group (and no I'm not going to show it to you....see step one above). Post roll every damn day, keep your word, and repeat.

Me thinks you've got some searching to do and you best get serious. Connect with your group and be the leader since you've been through it before. Let's see what ya' got.

And for damn sake go find your old group and apologize to them.

Will do man, Been doing alot of firsts without dip lately..drives to work and school..tomorrow will be fishing. And this weekend 4wheeling..i know i can do it. My mom bought me an ass load of gum from costco today..and my girlfriends been pushing me like no other. I find it to be really easy when im around my girl and my family. Shit..me and my brother fight like no other and today i sat down and watched a little tv with him.. quitting this is teaching me alot more than just quitting a bad habit..family bonds..love..yeah mushy mushy but its true.

Yall stay up!
As everyone else has said, welcome to the site. I wish I had had the fortitude to want to quit at your age in college. That was about the time i was really getting in to dip and thought it was the best thing going. It took me too many years to finally see otherwise. You are right family bonds do improve when your life is not centered around a stupid can.
Welcome and I just wanted to second Kdip - I wish I had the balls to quit at your age. You are REALLY doing yourself a favor by drop-kicking the nicbitch now. Congrats!
