Hey there, I am 8 days into my quit. I have tried many times in the past, went 18 months before I got married back in 2003. Like many others here, this time just feels different. I will never go back. Glad I came across this site.

Glad you're here Vman. 8 days solo is righteous. Educate yourself on the addiction; to underestimate the enemy is to fail.
You are in good company here - everyone here is an addict in recovery. Reach out and make some contacts.
You don't have to do it alone. Can't quit for you but I will quit with you. Welcome aboard.
-
Glad you're here bro! Be sure to find your quit group and start posting roll every morning if you haven't already. Best of luck, if you have any questions, hit me up

Vman,
Welcome to the group.
The main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not the rest becomes far more simple.
The next important thing is to learn how to distract your attention. When you get those thoughts about dipping, switch your attention and think about something else. Anything else that you like. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.
When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.
However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially on your initial quit days.
Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you cannot focus. Exercise really helps.
Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges so squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.
I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years. You are wise to quit now.
I quit with you today.
Dundippin day 1247

Today has been a strange day. Didnt sleep well and have had this nervous energy about me since. It almost feels like i am going into an important meeting or giving a big presentation. I have heard others talk about anxiety, which i have never suffered from or experienced. Did anyone else begin to experience something like this around the 3 week mark?

50 days quit yesterday. I have been using Smokey Mountain daily since my quit. I haven't used it at all the last 3 days and don't really have any desire. I am shocked at how quickly the interest faded. It was like here today gone tomorrow.

Good job on working on the physical side. Sometimes I forget it’s not only nicotine but also the comfort of having something in my lip. When I quit, I did it all. No fake stuff included. However, I have gone and gotten some Smokey mountain a time or two in the last 50 days. It does help, but I don’t want any of it. Congrats on that though. It’s another step in your badass quit.

The "habit" of putting something in your mouth generally dies off for most people. It is different for everyone when that time comes. There are guys in their 1000's of days that still need that little bit of mouth pleasure ever once in awhile. Me personally, I can think of other more pleasurable things to have in my mouth '40'
p.s. Glad we got you all worked out with your name and all.

Day 60 and feeling good. Although I am nervous as shit about golf season starting back up. Major trigger. Right now it is easy to say "never again" but i know the cravings will return. One day at a time I guess....

Congrats on 2 months without that nasty poison. Remember your priorities. Quitting better be a top priority in your life. You don't have to go golfing if it's going to interfere with your quit.
However, for many of us, golfing is like driving...it just has to be done. Once the decision to be Quit is made, 99% of golfers find that they can enjoy golf much more without the dead poison leaf. The other 1% didn't really make the decision to be quit and are looking for an excuse.
Sure, there will be some craves, but we power through them. Stock up on your go-to's...sunflower seeds, fake dip, gum, lots of water, etc. Refrain from alcohol if it makes you weaker. If bastard golf buddies offer you their can, kindly take it and dump the contents. They won't offer again. Stay away from 19th hole shenanigans that involve cigar-turds. Your game will improve and you might even enjoy chasing that white ball around.

I agree wholeheartedly with EVERYTHING Zeus has said above EXCEPT, my game hasn't improved any. roflmao roflmao roflmao

Agreed. Honestly if you gave me the choice of dip or golf, even before my quit, I would have chosen golf...maybe
