Vinnie,

I saw you made it to day 64 and then stopped posting. The chances of you seeing this are probably slim but I am hoping you will. Seems we have some things in common judging by your avatar(MEDEVAC!). Write me a PM if you see this. Hope you are still quit.

Vinnie I know what you mean I am a submariner so naturally there is dead time and like you said dead time is filled with shoot the shits and a fat lip. I will be facing this harsh reality of underway again here soon and know I will be tested but more importantly I know I have the resolve to stay nic free. Proud to be quitting with a fellow service man and trust me I get it brother!

Grumpy is a sign of genius Vinnie, so roll with it. You could be Sneezy instead. I quit with you today, grumpapotomous.

Vinnie, I am just a week ahead of you in my quit (quit date 4/20), and I have been leaning heavily on fake chew. There are a lot of dippers in my Wednesday night poker game--the guy immediately to my left a week ago had a can of Cope sitting on the table the whole game! I was sure glad to have a wad of Smokey Mountain to help my resolve!
Sounds like we need to stick together on here and keep each other on roll. I would love nothing more than to be an example and be there for my friends when they are ready to quit too. It probably wont be easy, especially since so many around us still use but we can do it!
You can definitely do this. Caving is not an option. Do something else. It's a simple decision.

Being quit is a daily decision that you sign in blood each morning when you wake up. This is done by placing your pledge here with Ktc. You further reinforce your commitment by developing some friendships with the quitters here. We will keep you accountable if you allow it and you show your commitment by never missing roll.

I quit with you today.

'Finger'

April 29th, 2014 at 7:00am marks the last clump of worm dirt I will ever finger out of my mouth. A little over 10 years I have carried around a can in my back pocket. As many of you have probably experienced, quitting while in the military is not an easy task. There is something about long and frequent time spent away from home, with a close knit group of guys, who all pass their free time by sitting around drinking beer, swapping manly stories, and hanging a fatty. After discovering this site, 10 days after my decision to kick tobacco in the ass, I realized that I probably picked the most inopportune time to quit. Days 3-5 of this new journey I was in the field with guys shooting pistols, assault rifles, and machine guns. Call it irony if you want, but for me, pulling a trigger is an extreme trigger for me to want to throw in a fat dip. The cravings were REAL. Surprisingly, after being ridiculed and turning down countless tobacco offerings, I survived this past weekend. In the past I have mentioned wanting to quit, cuing my fiancé to try and hide all of my stashes. Without truly wanting to quit all this resulted in was blacking out and turning into the angry-hulk-tobacco monster. Okay, maybe not blacking out but it did cause me and my loved one's worst arguments. However, I feel this time is different. I quit on my own. I told no one I was doing so because this is for me. Most friends and family have figured it out and are now encouraging me to continue facing this challenge. For me, the time to quit is here and I will be posting about my experiences on this site.

Time since last dip: 10d 2h 39m
My Cousin Vinnie,
Great choice to quit! Yes I know exactly what you mean on all accounts, but keep in mind there is never a perfect time to quit. Something will always happen to try to allow a trigger to kick back in. Now look at the list of items and links I am providing you and feel free to reach me via PM on here, to exchange numbers, swap war stories and generally talk about how I quit and see if that path will work for you,

1. Learn how to post roll How to Post Roll

2. The post Roll here Pre HOF August 2014, you will hit your HOF (100 days of Freedom in August of 2014)

3. Meet other quitters exchange numbers and help as much as you can as well as take the advice

4. Read the stories here Words of Wisdom, here is my favorite tear jerking Story Kerns' Story

5. Exercise, sounds weird but it will help when you get a craving

6. Drinks lots of water, if you pass a latrine or a bush without needing to piss you are not drinking enough

7. Find an alternative to keep on you at all times, cinnamon candies, fake dip, jerky, seeds, whatever works to ease your need for substance

P.S. All above underlined and bold are links to places on this site

Welcome Vinnie, great choice to be a quitter! You can do this!
Pinched has given you all the links you need to start. Learn to post roll and do it every morning to pledge you will not use today. Keep that promise. Get to know other quitters, let them help hold you accountable (peer accountability) and vice versa. Repeat tomorrow, you only have to quit for today, we will deal with tomorrow when it comes.
Fish, eat, sleep. Repeat.
quit date 2/10/12
HOF date 5/19/12
1 Year 2/10/13
2 Years 2/10/14
