  • Interests: I was addicted to nicotine for about 19 years before I actually realized that I was an addict to a drug. Allen Carr helped open my eyes with LionHeartedGirl (my sister). I am currently on day 2 and because of the frame of mind and different point of view that "The Easy Way" has given me, I don't doubt for one moment that I have ingested the last bit of that weed for the rest of my life. I am 35 now and am setting a goal of living long enough to have saved $100,000 because of my quit. At the same time, I am setting the goal of not smoking TODAY! One step at a time, while keeping my eyes on the horizon.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm not big on forums and such but this one can and will change my life, so I appreciate all the help.
Man, when I first found this place I was completely lost. I'm just a simple country boy, and this whole deal kinda freaked me out a bit. Especially the first time some stranger sent me their phone number. But, hey...... it's only kinky the first time, right?

Anyway, go with the flow man. The system here works.

Well I started smoking when I was fifteen, dipping came soon afterwards on the long high school hockey bus rides to and from games.  Been a smoker and closet dipper ever since- I'm 30 now.  Only really smoke when I drink, cut that out a couple months ago. But I've been dipping a can a day for quiet awhile.

So I deployed a couple months ago and found out that my deployed base doesn't sell tobacco anymore! If your ready to quit that's a pretty fantastic deal. But you can imagine how I felt getting blindsided by that fact.  I was having copenhagen shipped to me, I was going through withdrawals as I was waiting for my packages to come.  I never realized how addicted I was until I got those withdrawals, it was pathetic. I was buying the chew online with a credit card so my wife didn't see the $130 purchase for something she absolutely hates.

So July 30th I randomly emailed the wife and told her I was quitting the next day. I usually never tell anyone that I'm trying to quit, for obvious reasons, the same reasons why I never really quit before. But I did it this time, it's been really hard but once I quit I found this website which has helped.  I remind myself of all the stupid crap I do back home to get a dip. The times I didn't let my little boy come with me because I'd rather dip than hang out with him. The random trips to home depot and the gas station.  Honestly dipping is about the only reason I've ever fought with my wife.  So I've been dip free for 8 days now, the longest I've ever gone since bootcamp 11 years ago, pretty sad it's been that long, but exciting that it's happening now.  Haven't been sleeping well but I'm finding myself in a better mood than when I was dipping.  So here's to life without nicotine, it's that time and I'm ready for it.
Cabledawg,
You seem to have the same fucked up history that most of us do. Started way too young. Figured out a work around to let the Nicotine Bitch in and well served our country.

Remember this quit is all about you and it being totally your choice. You will need support from other around you but your CO will not give a flying FUCK about your quit and your daily life must and will go on with or without Nic.

Stay strong get digits from many of us and we will help you out. I owe this group a lot, so PM me if you want my number to help with accountability.

Other than that Post roll and remember that is your daily promise. Then explore the site and all the stuff inside. There are a great group of people here. Keep in mind great means they are good for your quit. They may be assholes of complete Jackasses at times but they only care about helping you quit and stay accountable. Think of the group as a large group of COs that cannot make you do pushups, burpees or KP duty.

Welcome,

Welcome Cable, you are already getting great advice down below from some bad ass quitters. I would add a few things here, get accountable, tell everyone you quit. I told anyone who would listen and I still do. I want my accountability web so freaking I am terrified to fail .

Go, 100% into this site and into our brotherhood. This shit works, I promise, but you have to commit. Get active in your group and start getting battle buddies. They will save your life I can promise you that. I quit with you.

Highly recommend you go here: Welcome Center, Getting Acclimated, What to Expect   Top Ten List

Your quit Decision MUST be 100% about you. Anything short of that sets you up for failure by allowing your addict brain to blame a given situation as reason for you to go back to the can. Quitting out of fear of a medical issue fades as soon as the doctor or dentist gives you a clean bill of health. We don't use words like try or luck - get determined and do not allow the door you just slammed shut to crack open

You want another layer of accountability? Come post in my room every morning after you post roll in yours April 2012
