So about a week ago I found two small lumps on the crease between my gum and lip on my lower jaw (yeah right where a lot of dips went). They were smaller than a bb each, and very hard to see unless I pushed them up with a fingernail.
Long story short I was able to get into a dentist who examined me, and at first didn't find them. She asked me to show her, which I did, and then she examined me again. After that she used a VELscope to examine my whole mouth, and really spent time on the area of the two lumps. She stated that she could not see anything suspicious using the scope and that she thinks they are mucoceles or plugged saliva glands.
She said that the first thing cancer does is develop circulation by establishing blood vessels, and that the VELscope would detect the blood vessels, which it didn't.
I felt better about it, however after doing some research on the internet, the jury is still out on the effectiveness of these type of lights for detecting cancer. Anyone have experience with these? I have another appt. with her on Monday, and I am wondering if I should push to see a specialist or not. Thanks for any advice.
i just had a lump removed from my tounge from an renouned oral suren. i asked him if he would do the scope. he laughed and said no that its just a new toy for dentists to play with. it got passed by the fda on the back of tongue depressor bill. he siad that the best detction is still a trianed eye. if you fill you need a second opinion do so by all means. this is a scary thong I know what you are going through. if you need more information pm me he gave me a web site about the vel- scope study. you have not been quit very long. alot of that is dead skin that will sluff off the longer you dont dip. stay on top of it though. if you need anything please pm me. prayers for your fears and worry i think every thing will turn out ok for you.

Wendell I can give you some of my experience.  I quit 298 days ago after 40 years of dipping. Part of the time I dipped I actually had a death wish. Yep I wanted to be dead and choose Copenhagen as my choice of suicide. (Really stupid). After quitting I had some really bad effects in my mouth and throat.  From about day 40 - 70 I was sure I had tongue cancer it hurt so bad I wanted to cut it off. I had huge grooves and swelling of my whole tongue.   Turned out I got yeast infection from oral sex! lol!  Even before quitting I had a tightness in my throat and it kept getting worse.  Honestly I didn't want to know because I could feel a large lump mid way on my neck.  Finally about day 150 or so I went to my Dr and he scoped my throat and sinuses.  Turned out I had bad acid redux and sinus infection that combined was my problem.  a little antacid and some antibiotics cleared it right up.
Jesus Christ, only you would post some shit like that old man.
lol
Hey, I can laugh about it now but go back to my intro I was scared to death. You remember that Mark. Oh yea, I'm stilled pissed at you for not telling me diesel!

hahahahaha. another reason I'm thankful to be quit: I would have pepper sprayed my computer laughing at this thread.

Damn WT, that was cold of that dude not to tell you he had a yeast infection. LOL!!!!

I can relate to the constant worry, but if doctors say you're good, then it SHOULD lessen the fear. However I know that is easier said then done.

I also had anxiety up the ass, but more so because my body couldn't handle no nicotine. Doctors and some anti anxiety meds helped with that but I still worried about...EVERYTHING.

I would always tell myself to "stop worrying". But you know how it goes, tell yourself not to think of pink elephants and all you can see in your head is pink fucking elephants.

So I read up about it online and found a simple trick that worked for me. I would tell myself "its okay to worry about such and such, but don't allow it to consume you. Deep down you know you're fine"

Sounds dumb I know but it really worked for me. Not saying it will work for you, but shit...its worth a shot. Welcome to the site!!!! I'm here anytime you need anything, pm me.

wendell_12 are you finding any lumps or anything? Anything odd at all? Or are you just being paranoid? I was paranoid while I was using, and still am a little today even with my quit.

If you're just being paranoid, I recommend just blocking that shit out of your head. Unless you have some reason to be concened, then don't be. Don't let that shit consume your time.

Have you been to the dentist? If the dentist says your clean, I would just sit back and enjoy my life and clean bill of health.

One day at a time. Never again for any reason.

Cancer - I have heard that 5 years after being quit, your risk of cancer returns to that of non-nicotine users. I could totally be butchering this fact. And, if I recall correctly, it concerned smokers as opposed to smokeless tobacco.

Anxiety is a common side-effect of quitting. I think it is your brain re-wiring itself. But remember, what's done is done. You can't change the past. All you can do is make sure you never put that shit in your face again. Get second opinions, third opinions or whatever...just don't put that shit in your face.

Stay strong, brother.

Welcome to the Jackwagins Wendell. I see ya intro'd yourself on in the Quit Group there earlier, but when you return, go back into there and post roll. You'll enter your quittername and days quit in the Wagin Train area, will be just below the HoF names there.....94 days is awesome, especially without the benefit of this site man....'Grats so far on that.....lean on all these folks here...lots of knowledge and support here. Use it to your advantage.

KTC and all these fellers help keep my pissed-offed-ness at tobacco maintained (pardon that word...just re-read my HoF speech, and i MAY have over-used that word possibly maybe)...

PM me if you need more numbers...I quit with you today.
